John, or others

Is there anything here you would be find interesting in for your countries and projects.

To address this, IREX’s Center for Collaborative Technology (CCT) programs reach out to girls around the world and train them to be technology leaders, whether in their local communities such as in Namibia, or on a national level through competitions like the Biblionet program’s Open Opportunities initiative. Partnering with TechSoup and Microsoft Romania, Biblionet offered career mentoring to young people through public libraries. As a result, a group of mostly female high school students worked together to develop the “OnTime” mobile app with support from their Microsoft mentor, exemplifying the leadership and tech skills the partnership aimed to develop.

In Asia and Eurasia, CCT works to empower a cadre of promising young women leaders to become tech-savvy agents of change in their communities through the Tech Age Girls (TAG) program. Over 1,300 girls have gained technology, social media, and leadership skills in Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Moldova through the TAG program. The girls are bringing together their problem-solving skills with the power of technology. For example, in Bac Giang, Vietnam, TAG participant Ngan taught her school’s journalism club how to use digital storytelling tools to better report news relevant to her fellow students. Girls who have participated in the program talk not only about the technology skills they learned, but also about their increased self-confidence and leadership skills.

IREX’s Center for Collaborative Technology (CCT) provides a fresh perspective on advancing development goals by listening to the priorities of those in need and designing appropriate, practical responses. It promotes technology to make real improvements in people’s lives by recognizing that technology tools alone are not a panacea.
