Hello everyone,

My name is Aaron Strick, and I have been working at the Bura Primary
School Deployment. You can follow what we are doing there at
http://olpcinbura.blogspot.com.

I also happen to be the one who set this group up, and the
administrator, so I thought I would introduce myself a little bit:

I recently graduated from Boston University, and am interested in
Computers and Languages. I come from San Francisco, California
originally, and just spent my first month here in Kenya. I am very
excited for the OLPC deployments across the country to continue
collaborating, so we can enrich the educational experience for all
students using the computers.

There are many many deployments in Kenya, (though just a fraction of
the deployments all over the world). Check out this site to see just
how many I am talking about, and just how powerful this collaboration
network can be! http://olpcmap.net/

Also, if you are interested in how people across the world are
deploying the computers, see http://planet.laptop.org to see all the
blogs people are creating everywhere.

When you join this group, send out an introduction about yourself,

Aaron Strick

Thanks Aaron:

Can you make sure this new kenya-olpc discussion list is easy as cake to
find for those exploring Kenya's edutech communities on
http://olpcMAP.net and on http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC_Kenya ?

I'd suggest you place a very prominent marker somewhere on olpcMAP.net
near/on Nairobi, explaining the purpose of kenya...@googlegroups.com
and exactly how to quickly/easily join, and likewise on OLPC's wiki above.

You may later also want to invite the almost 400 people who've emailed
OLPC about Kenya in the past few years, asking them if they too want to
actively contribute, or merely join the discussion. This requires
careful consideration of privacy (eg.
http://wiki.laptop.org/go/OLPC:Privacy_policy) and utmost sensitivity to
those who wrote in from years past, but I can explain to you how to do
this conscientiously *if* you have the time to invest in serious
community-building. Which would be great! In which case please contact
me privately, thanks =)

Dear Aaron,

Thanks for setting this up. Its going to get us going pretty well.
As people sign up, we'll explore a few ideas.... maybe they will work.
1. A web tool where we will share experiences, challenges, opportunities etc.
2. An annual get together, some kind of forum/conference...
3. My many kenyan friends like goat eating, maybe a goat eating can crown such a get together:)

Thanks
