- the last time we had a discussion about the boards , i was called
a 'twat' for 'failing' to understand that the boards could not have
been left at the airport and a volunteer was needed .
- we were with githinji today, and he left early before i could inquire further
should we assume that the boards have been pocketed by AAG
Participants or is there any hope for BENEFIT FOR ALL ?

if i smell hydrangea anywhere in this house , i will be very disappointed.

Mathea, this issue of chess board is a bit more boring than you are thinking,.. my opinion was and has always been that they would have been more useful if kept together than if distributed (or pocketed if you like) but most members of that team felt like they each needed a board of there own, i didnt quite understand why, especially when most (if not all) of them could easily afford and it could have been reasonable to atleast give back something to the chess society.
I understand that the boards were 18 (which means somebody could easily organize a tournament of 36 players without having to look for assistance of boards from CK or NCC) and we were 12 in that team, i would also like to be made aware of what will happen to the other 6 boards (btw, am yet to collect mine so i suppose they are 7)... i suggest they be donated to a club like Chesspak or Mombasa Chess club where atleast they can be useful instead of them being kept at just one place.

I also did not understand why players wanted the boards for themselves. The allowances given would easily have bought them one board. I took/'pocketed' two boards at the airport and have given them to the new Kibera Community center. I want more boards, if the AAG guys are willing to let me 'pocket' 3 or 4 extra boards from the surplus there is. I have set up I think the only chess club/training ground for chess in Kibera. Photos coming. Right now I have 9 regular students aged 9-17 (over the last 3 weekends) with more coming, I presume, and I will need 'extra' help. If anyone wants to volunteer. It's every Sunday in two sessions. The environs are very safe with myself encountering no problems when walking around. Ok, I am a curious cat by nature but I haven't been killed/raped or anything else yet.

The community center built recently is an initiative led by Kenyan writers and supported by an assortment of professionals and business man. The block which has 4 floors was built entirely via well-wisher funds over the last few months. Floor 3 is a 'spectator stadium' with TV screen and for a 20 bob charge premier league games are screened so you can come watch. Last Sunday had over 150 guys spectating the football.

In addition, they have a library floor. I have bought them one computer (they have four now) with fritz and other stuff loaded. Plus I got them some beginner- intermediate level books for the library.

I think it's a good start...maybe this is the way to change the junior scene (?). Why wait for Turkish programmed to roll out, why wait for CK manifestos to start coming alive?

So, I want 4 boards from that AAG surplus. If any AAG guy wants to come next Sunday and see for themselves...and on seeing immediately feel like coughing up them surplus boards and any chess books gathering dust at home.

Mathea,

With your reasoning I will be very embarassed if you ever win a tournament game against me. I am just holding the sets. Get that through your twat head.

Atwoli and Mehul,
I think it is hypocrisy for you guys to start suggesting this weeks after the boards were given. Why di you guys not suggest it whilst we were dining? To come and say it in retrospect is in bad faith, to try and make other AG guys look greedy and self serving. It warrants an apology.

For the record, The big box is as is, at the corridor of my house, I do not know how many boards are inside and I haven't picked one either. When you guys reach a consensus, or wish to take them, good riddance.

I am surprised that Mehul took 2 sets, no one actually signed anything, I dont even know what number they were initially. Whatever the case I don't appreciate twat charackters insinuating that I have stolen boards or the like.

Mehul,

I only remember that guys during dinner did NOT want CK to acquire the boards, despite the VC's appeal. Many reasons were given like better use by clubs and tournaments but nothing conclusive.

About you having 4 more sets, its not my decision. Why not ask the Team manager, Mukabi.

NCC aka Mehul,

Good job at Kibera, that's my hood and may turn up after Mombasa

As for the boards we would be grateful if they could be loaned to
ChessPAK so that we stop bothering guys to carry own sets for tornas.
On our part we promise neva to let a month pass without a chess event!

The 'threat' was to give them to CK. Guys agreed to take the boards
and to use them in a manner as they would so wish to. Some guys said
they would donate to clubs, others mentioned not to have ever owned
their own board, whilst others okay with whatever decision that was
going to be made.

I would bet almost half of us had NO idea what CHESSPAK was all about
and to begin mentioning here that "they should be donated to
CHESSPAK," is not in good breath. And besides, it is as good as giving
them to CK as well, or the petitioning Committee, or every club that
was represented at the petitioning,, and the spiral keeps unfolding
and unfolding and unfolding.....since they were behind the happening
of AAG.

(At some point, i had a gut feeling it would get 'discussed'
here...Asi!!) I am embarrassed!!

On behalf of WeCC, I appreciate Mehul's gesture to donate the sets to us but we are okay for now. By the end of this year, we will be well on our way to a surplus of equipment and in fact are looking to help start up clubs in schools that don't have access to adequate infrastructure.

By the way, this childish behaviour has to stop if anyone is going to take Kenyan chess players seriously. Why can't all the AAG players just take a vote on what is to be done with the boards? It's better that they are used by someone, whether ChessPAK or even CK.

I also agree, the players must have had their own boards that they used before AAG. I think they can replace their old boards with the new ones and donate the older ones to be used for holding tournaments, that's if they don't want to give the new ones. That can really ease the burden of organizing tournaments. They shouldn't be given to CK, more deserving bodies like ChessPAK require them.

atwoli's idea was best , the boards need to be used together . the
boards should be used collectively , branding them as CHESSPAK's ,
CK's , GITHINJI's OR MCC's doesn't help.
to rehema ,
i own 1 board and it serves me well , ironically , i have played
chess more on club's board than my own. that's why i get baffled where
some one would store 20 boards or more in his house.

Regional twat,

Please direct me to your club house / warehouse where I can deposit the box. As long at it is not a house, I will be happy to deliver.

For anyone who thinks the boards are mine, stand corrected. They are just in my possession.

Weak Mathea has a problem with them being in a house. Would you rather I put them outside?

Team manager gave me the responsibility to take care of them. That's what am doing. If Mathea you still have a problem with that, I suggest you leave my name out of it.

Second, Che Obutu etc all, please know that boards were distributed at the airport. I doubt the box has six plus boards. I will confirm if I get a chance once I get home.

For the record, as I stated earlier, we had a team discussion over supper about the boards. The debate was whether they belong to Ck or not
Magnum put forth a strong case for them not going to ck. That was agreed.

More to this, the boards were not seen until the date of departure. In fact, we knew the quantity was 12, same as our contingent. Only to find out they were more.

Singe, of all people should be the first to congratulate us for wresting the boards off ck. Having been in assignments abroad before where equipment and books were given to the fed and never trickled down.

Personally, am in no need of a set. Am considering retirement, a decision made easy by self seeking twats. I am answerable to the TM so pick it up with him. Already I understand he has been threatened by the usual suspects because of these sets. I wouldn't want to mess him
He should be cited for bravery.

My 2 cents

that the boards issue is still controversial.
