Service Trip Itinerary
Trips to Haiti are 8 days in length (Friday-Friday) and include the following:
Travel to Haiti.
4-5 days in a bridge village.
·         Service projects are determined by needs in the community (priorities are set by the town leadership council) at the time of the service trip.
·         Teams will receive a general itinerary 30-45 days prior to the trip, followed by a detailed itinerary approximately 7-14 days before departure.
All meals, bottled water, and travel within Haiti are covered.
Travel home.
Where Will We be Going?
We will be going to Bohoc (boh-hok), a rural village approximately 5 hours drive time north of Port-au-Prince (see map).  This will be our fourth and fifth trips to Bohoc.
What Will the Weather be Like?
It will be warm.  J  And it may be rainy at times, too.
What Will We be Doing?
Most of the trip will be devoted to building relationships with the Haitians (going to church with them, working alongside them, praying with them, doing home visits, etc.).  Some of our time, too, will be spent at the Matthew 28 Orphanage.  The exact details of the kinds of things we will be working on will be determined as the dates of our trip draw closer.
What Will Our Accommodations be Like?
Most likely, we will stay the first and last nights at the guest house attached to New Life Childrens Home in the outskirts of Port-au-Prince.  This is where we've stayed on all our previous trips.  For the remainder of the trip, we will, most likely, stay at the Haiti Outreach Guest House (HOGH), where we've stayed on all previous trips.  HOGH is located in Pignon, which is about twenty minutes from Bohoc.  The guest house has several rooms, each of which can house up to anywhere from two to five people and has a separate bathroom.
How Long Does it Take to Fly to Haiti?
Typically, ½ day (depends on layovers).  Flight time from Miami is about an hour and a half.
Passports
Each participant must obtain a valid passport.  Passports can take up to 10 weeks to obtain.  For info about passports, please visit the following link: http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html.

Will I be Safe in Haiti?
Safety is paramount!  410 Bridge staff will do everything possible to ensure our safety.  Experienced Haitian drivers, aware of all transportation routes, communities, and hotels, will provide transportation.  As an extra precaution, our team will not be permitted to venture out at night from the compound in Port-au-Prince (1st and last nights) or from the guest house in Bohoc.  We will practice staying together as a team the moment we assemble at RDU, because it will be imperative that we move about as a team throughout the entire length of the trip.  As in almost every place in the world, you are urged to pay attention to your surroundings and to keep your valuables secure (or, better yet, don’t bring any/many.)
Required Reading for all Team Members
When Helping Hurts, by Steve Corbett and Brian Fikkert.  This book is available in the resource center at newhope church central campus.
Immunizations, Medications, and General Health Preparedness
Traveling to a foreign country can be risky.  As such, the CDC in Atlanta has provided information regarding travel to every country in the world.  Each participant is to have received all CDC recommended (or required) immunizations prior to departing on the trip.  At this time, there are no required immunization, but there are some that are recommended.  It is recommended that you consult with your doctor or a travel professional to discuss which immunizations you should get and which meds you should bring (i.e., malaria pills, etc.).  For information about immunizations, malaria pills, etc, please visit the following link: http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/.  Note:  Some shot sequences can take several weeks to be properly administered; it is recommended that you begin to pursue all required immunizations soon.  For health-related travel advice and help with obtaining recommended immunizations, malaria pills, etc., I recommend contacting Concentra (919/941-1911 or -1901) in Durham, NC.
Travel Insurance
Sometimes accidents happen, and sometimes people get sick.  Blue Cross/Blue Shield does not work over in Haiti.  As such, travel insurance is required to provide assistance should one of us need to be emergency air-lifted out of Haiti.  The $1,450 trip cost includes this valuable insurance coverage.

Subject: meeting reminder

Hey team,

This is a reminder that we will be meeting again this Sunday at 6:30 in the "higher grounds" area at Newhope church. I will present the devotion this Sunday. Will you all please think about if you would like to be the coordinator for the rest of the devotions? This just means you're in charge of getting someone to sign up for each of the devotions (both here and on the ground in Haiti) and maintaining that list. We should have someone assigned to that role by this Sunday. It is only 10 days until the first half of the deposit is due ($775). Keep up the fundraising!

See you Sunday,
Leah
