Can you tell me a couple of different companies who will meet all of the necessary coverages for my students?

I completely understand that and tend to agree with them. But if an individual or agency is negligible then they should be responsible. We cannot control any and all possible scenarios but need to work together to make sure our students get the same opportunities that we had to obtain their educational objectives. We have yet to have an agency deny a student access based on lack of this coverage and I hope it does not become a trend. We have a policy in the hand book that states that injuries to a student are their responsibility. Hopefully, services would run agreements such as these through their legal channels to see if they would help alleviate their concerns. If not, then seek advice on what would be amicable to all involved parties.

Many individual policies, and Anthem is a great example of this, deny coverage if the cause is accidental and due to the actions of another individual or entity. They expect you to litigate to have your expenses covered. Not all do this, but some do. Anthem is notorious for doing so.

Technically, everyone is supposed to have health insurance now and since they are not "ok the job" it will cover such events.

Cannot say that we have ever had an issue with our malpractice coverage but I hadn’t thought of the spin on personal injury. No one has ever asked us about personal issue either…..

Not replying from the educator side on this one, but from the provider side… the biggest issue we have had as a provider is with the training institution not having injury coverage for their students, most institutions seem to have adequate coverage on the clinical side of the fence, but without injury coverage, our lawyers have advised we cannot let them ride. The college based programs seem to have this coverage where the non-college based institutions have tended not to have it.

Just wanted to throw that out there as we run into it a lot.

Hi, have any of you had departments refuse to take paramedic students because the village is concerned about lawsuits and if so,how did you over come that?

We have a $6,000,000 medical malpractice policy from the college we are affiliated with that covers our students, but that is not satisfactory for the village in question. I have been teaching for many years and this is the first time this situation has come up. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you
