Good Morning.
I am once again grateful to everyone who attended our last meeting for your patience. Some people really enjoy protracted discussions of the minute details of an organization's bylaws, and well crafted bylaws are important to the success of an organization, but if you are not one of those people then I am especially grateful to you for indulging this effort so we can move forward effectively with our real mission, promoting Libertarian policies in Kent County, in Delaware, and across the country and the world. Since no one called for orders of the day as we ran well over time dealing with only one article of our bylaws, we did again table the remaining two articles. For our next meeting though, the agenda calls for tabling one of those and only attempting to deal with one so we have time to do some other business.
In particular, at the request of a member, we will be including a discussion about membership and outreach and possible methods for us to grow our numbers in terms of meeting attendance, but also in terms of fundraising, membership, candidates, votes, and all of the other things a political party does. Also, at our meeting last week, we approved the creation of a "Platform Committee" to begin work of crafting resolutions or planks in what might ultimately become a platform for the Kent County LPD, inspired by the National LP's Platform and Libertarian principles, but applied particularly to issues of interest to Kent County and to Delaware. This committee is an open "committee of the whole", open to any members of the Kent County LPD, and meeting for the moment on the
State Party's Discord Server. If you are interested in helping out or have a particular issue that you feel we should focus on, please join us or send an email to
ke...@lpdelaware.org.
The efforts of the Platform Committee will be presented at our next monthly meeting on September 20th. It will once again be held at
McGlynn's Pub in Dover starting around 7p. You can also attend remotely on the
State Party's Discord Server. The draft agenda can be found
here and may be updated prior to the meeting. Links from the agenda include the
minutes from our last meeting as well as the
proposed amendments to the county bylaws that have been notified and tabled for action on the 20th.
As a reminder, we have established a
PayPal account and added a donate button to our
website. Our fundraising enables outreach efforts, candidate support, and assistance to the State Party in statewide endeavors. With PayPal, there's an easy way to sign up for a monthly donation to the county party to help us out in that area and your assistance is greatly appreciated!
Finally, in addition to our regular meeting and the Waffle House Caucus gatherings, we are looking to start a tradition of meeting up for food and/or drinks in other places around the county. In July, Irene was kind enough to open her home to us. This month, we are looking at meeting up at
Fraziers on Friday the 27th at 7p. Please join us for a less formal social event with no party business. Especially no bylaws!
Thank you again for your efforts, your patience, and your participation! I look forward to seeing you soon.
Will McVay,
Kent County Chair,
Libertarian Party of Delaware.
