Born in Goa, India on November 3, 1946, he was a son of the late Rosario and Jacqueline Gracias. He later moved to Uganda where he grew up and started working. It is there he met Irene DeSouza, fell in love, and got married. When things got bad in Uganda, Irene and Mark fled to the United States and ended up in Wilmington, DE. Mark worked for ALICO and later with Cigna as a Senior Business Analyst.
Mark was a loving husband to Irene for 51 years. He was a wonderful father to Kyle, Jacqueline and later Matt. Being the oldest of 9 siblings, he made it his duty to look after his brothers and sisters. Mark was a caring brother-in-law; he adored his nieces and nephews and most of all his grandnieces/nephews.
Family meant everything to Mark, but his friends were just as important. So many people considered Mark a dear friend and many have visited Irene and shared wonderful memories of him. Mark was always so hospitable and welcoming to everyone. The more the merrier was his saying. He always made sure there was enough food and drink for an entire army. Mark was always the life of the party. Drink in one hand or on the dance floor. He pulled anyone as a dance partner and loved to engage in conversation, even after they just met.
Due to his job, he travelled to multiple countries and eventually took his family with him. Travel was his joy. He wanted to see the world and learn about new cultures and history. Mark made some dear friends on his trips, and many continued to be in touch with him long after the trip.
Mark had a passion for sports. While he loved basketball, football, and soccer, his biggest love was cricket. As a young man, he played Cricket very well. On most days you could catch him binge watching the Cricket Channel.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10 am until 12 pm on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Holy Family R.C. Church, 15 Gender Road, Newark, DE, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 12 pm. Interment will be held privately.
Thank you Uncle Mark for your continuous love and affection. You always went above and beyond to make us all feel welcome in Delaware. You treated me so well buying me personalized Western outfits from Korea and spoiled Chris, Hannah and Maya. I love you and will miss you very much. I will always be your GiGi.

Our deepest sympathies to you as you begin to cope with your great loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult period of your lives. However we know that your faith in Our Lord will shepherd you through this stage of your journey in life
Mark was a truly genuine person and our recollection goes back to High School and then as part of the Horizon Cricket team in Kampala where he was our captain and leader. While he was a stylish batsman, most importantly his sensitivity to his team members was always much appreciated.
Uncle Mark was such a beautiful person. With his bear hugs he would just show his love for us. So genuine and caring. We will miss him dearly.
Our thoughts and love go out to you Aunty Irene, Jacqueline, Matt and Kyle
To dear Irene and family,

Although our paths did not cross much while we lived in Canada, we remember our days in Uganda fondly.

Dearest Irene, Kyle, Jacqueline and Matt,
Our deepest sympathies to you on the sad loss of our dear friend Mark. May the perpetual light shine on his soul, and may he rest in peace. Amen. I knew him as Marcus. I lived on Rubaga road, and Mark lived in Kisenyi. When we were kids. I used to walk from my house to his house, and together we used to walk to Norman Godinho School. Those were the days. May Almighty God give you all the strength to cope with this very sad loss.

Dear Irene, Jackie and Kyle,
It has taken us this long to digest the sad news of Mark. We write this note of condolence with a heavy heart and much sadness. Words cannot express our grief. We cherish the wonderful memories he has left and will remember him always especially the good times in East Africa, Goa and Canada.
Look back on all the good memories you all were able to have and share before he passed away. May the memories of Mark bring you all comfort during this difficult time in your lives. We hope that you all will derive some comfort in knowing that there are friends who share in your grief.
My dearest Irene, Jacqueline, Kyle & Matt,
I was deeply saddened to hear about our dearest Mark. Have fond memories of the Gracias family meeting up with us in the Kenyan National parks and staying with the family occasionally in Nairobi. Mark always welcomed us with open arms, he was a very warm and caring person and had a good sense of humor. He always liked to tease me with that naughty smile!! We love you Mark and may you rest in heaven with the angels and with our loved ones. You are fondly remembered and shall miss you dearly.
Dearest Irene, Jacqueline, Matt and Kyle:
