Howeverwhen I replaced the original PSU with the Chicony 500W PSU, it did not work at all. The Power Button LED kept blinking amber with 2 blinks followed by a short pause, 2 blinks, long pause, then repeated. I am not quite sure about what caused that. Seems that the 6pin adaptor Is there any possible ways to make the Chicony 500W PSU work on 5060 MT?

another user had reported similar issue. It does seem the Dell 500w psu designed for 5080/7080 is not backward compatible with 5070/5060, i.e., earlier Dell optiplex models of series 5 that uses psu of 6 pin + 1*4 pin. Not sure where Dell tricked user. Is it the 6 pin pin out or 2*4 pin vs 1*4 pin? Dell moderator has not responded with helpful answer to user question on proprietary 6 pin pin out. What you could experiment is to use a standard generic 24 to 6 pin adapter for Dell and a standard ATX psu with 24 pin + 4 pin. User reported such adapter is compatible with xps 8940 which shares Dell oem psu with optiplex 7080.

Can OP upload high res pictures of 6 pin connector of 260w psu for 5060 and 500w psu for 5080? Although Dell oem psu uses nonstandard color code, they still use green gray black color standard in the 6 pins. The two 12V wires may use yellow, brown, white, or purple depending on psu manufacturer or specific model.

Seems that the pin out of the six pin adaptors on those two PSU (260/500) is not just "rearranged" but "different" from each other. If that's true, it will be very difficult to make modifications so that the 500W PSU could work on 5060MT motherboard.

looks like the pinout of gray wire and two black wires are consistent bth 260/500. It is possible that the blue wire in 500 corresponds to green wire in 260. The two purple wires are probably both 12V.

The other question is if pinout of 6 pin of 260/500 is actually the same, what prevents 5060 motherboard from POST using the 500w. Two possibilities: does both 4 pin of 500w need to be plugged in motherboard in order for psu to work? Does 5060 and 7080 motherboard power on switch have anything to do?

This Original Dell Power Supply supports Original Small Form Factor Dell optiplex Series Desktop Computers that can enable the execution of parallel threads or applications to be on completely separate cores. It means that it has an impressive system response when multi-threaded or multiple applications are running simultaneously. Original 240W / 255W Power Draw Capacity of this Dell SMPS can optimize its thermal performance Which enables the system to adjust its voltage and core frequency to decrease overall power consumption. This can also help to lower overall heat production and provide a balance between providing power and conserving power. With Intel Virtualization, your one hardware platform can function as multiple virtual platforms.
