An explanation for the previous post (per the welcome message on Jan
19, 2011) would be of virtue ;)

As you may have seen, Google Groups announced it will soon phase out
the self-described "Welcome Message feature". Although the ability to
have and modify a personalized welcome message (including changing
text size, font, etc) is well liked by group owners, Google says it
has had a lot of technical headaches maintaining this feature. Rather
than keep trying to fix it, they are getting rid of it altogether so
they can focus on other improvements.

As part of Google's process of discontinuing the welcome message
feature, any owners leaving their welcome message up from Jan 13, 2011
on would have had no ability to modify the message. In effect, the
welcome message would have been frozen in time regardless of any need
to update the message. Thus, I and other Google group owners deleted
the message while we could.

An alternative is to post a welcome message in the message board and
permanently having it at the top of the board. This is what I and
other group owners have elected to do.

On a similar vein, Google Groups is also phasing out both the Files
and the Pages features as well. It might be nice if in time they
bring these features back as technology advances, but for now there
are other Google features (such as Google Sites) that can be used and
then linked from a Google Groups list.

Hope this helps. I hope everybody is having a happy nude year.

George
