Hello Shirley
My Grandmother lived in 81 Pwllygath St. She was Maggie Davies known to everyone as Maggie Bryant her maiden name. During the war her sons were Frank who worked on Pwyllygath Farm and so was in a reserved occupation, but was also in the the Fire service. He was on the firefighting duties in both the Cardiff and Swansea blitz.
My father Arthur was in the 159 Welsh Field Ambulance RAMC and was in the BEF at Dunkirk, N Africa, Sicily and Italy. Wounded in Italy he was in hospital in Naples until the end of the war.
Youngest son Jack was in the RAF and spent 5 Years in India.
Only daughter Nancy lived at home and worked in the Co-op.
Dont know if you knew any of them.
All the best

Hi Alun
Nice to hear from you. None of the names you mention mean anything to me although I might have known them by sight. No.81 was in the next block down the street. I also remember the Co-op. It belongs to one of the supermarket chains now. I saw it a few weeks ago and remembered that was where we turned right into Pwllygath Street from Commercial Street.
I also knew a boy called Vincent Roach that I was sweet on at the time but he lived in the block with lower numbers further up the street.
I was really amazed at how much I could remember, seeing as I was there from the age of 9 – 11 or thereabouts. It certainly surprised my daughter who’s always saying I have a bad memory.
Anyway if anyone remembers me I would love to hear from them.
Regards to all
Shirley
