We see colour arrangements, note composition, explore value decisions, and discover use of edge. Whether viewing on our phones, laptop screen, or tablet, what we also see is each image pretty much the same size as the next. So we have no real idea of the scale of a painting (soooooo important!). Neither can we experience the texture of marks in a visceral way.
Great post, thank you! I agree completely that the best way to see art is live and up close. Too bad the museum is so slack about their digital reproductions! Usually there are several choices online of important art works but then you really never know which is closest to reality. There must be more reliable websites than the Tate.
I saw some Degas pastels a few years ago in Milwaukee and they were very vibrant. Just as it is better to see the art in person when possible I also think that painting from life is a much better choice than from photos. And when photos are a must such as doing landscapes in the studio I do think studies done from life are just as important as photo references and I use both. But I never copy one photo. I use several different photos and print them out in black and white because the camera really lies about colors outdoors. And it puts everything in focus which is not the way our eyes see things. Photo images are great for what they can do and we do get to see a lot of artwork we would never see otherwise but we need to be aware of their limitations.
Great post. I could never see what everyone thought was so great about Van Gogh. Until I saw his Starry Night on loan at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco. It is a very small painting but it totally blew me away. I kept going back to that room to look at it again. I did not go up close like everyone else. I stood at the back of the room and from there you could actually see the stars twinkling. I did not buy a poster or a cup or any of the other stuff on sale. Nothing could compare to that view of the real painting.

The Real Estate License Transfer Application is a system within INBiz that allows real estate licenses to complete many of their license status and association changes. The system has been created to eliminate the need for the submission of the traditional transfer form by mail, saving licensees time and money, and letting them get to work without delay.
Through INBiz, licensees can now complete transfers of license status and assocation. Activation of a referral or inactive status license cannot be completed online. Among the transactions that can be completed within the system are transfer, move to assigned, move to referral (same company), move to unassigned, move to referral (new company) and move to inactive.
This option allows you to move your license to an inactive status. While your license is in inactive status, you are not required to complete continuing education. You must certify that you will not perform an act that requires a broker license.
The Illinois Department of Revenue has developed a free online program for your use, called MyDec, which will allow you to process real property transfer tax declarations, including authorizing and printing electronic stamps. The Department intends to begin phasing in the use of MyDec immediately. All counties are eligible to participate. Transition will occur on a first-come, first-served basis. To begin the enrollment process, county recorders should contact us at Rev.MyD...@illinois.gov.
Using MyDec, you will be able to review and verify declarations, authorize and print real estate transfer tax stamps for the exact dollar amount of each transaction, track and record the transactions and run reports on the declarations in your jurisdiction. Payment for real estate transfer tax stamps issued through MyDec will be made monthly to the Department via ACH credit.
Once you've signed up to use MyDec, individuals, law firms, and settlement agencies in your jurisdiction will be able to sign-up to use the system too. These users will be able to create, submit, review, accept, and close transfer tax declarations online. They also will be able to track the status of, and make corrections to, a declaration during the recording process.
The Department also has developed a webservice that will allow counties to continue to use their current software programs, if they choose to do so, as an alternative to MyDec. The Department has provided detailed specifications to software providers, such as ACS, Computer Information Concepts, Cott Systems, Fidlar Technologies, IT Stability, and Tyler Technologies, so their current products can be modified to communicate with MyDec.
This program is 100% online and follows a three-stage approach: Students will first acquire the fundamentals of the real estate process, learn critical vocabulary, and understand the procedural and legal requirements of the field. Next, they will examine the key financial concepts of real estate, including cash-flow models, market analysis and pro forma development. In the final stage, students will examine the development process as a whole, applying the analysis tools obtained in previous courses to real-life development projects.
This course provides an opportunity for Master of Real Estate Development students to engage in a culminating experience involving a substantive project which demonstrates a synthesis of learning including broadly comprehensive knowledge of a discipline, its methods, and processes.

Program, a J.D. or LL.B. degree from a law school approved by the American Bar Association or an equivalent law degree from a foreign law school.
Applicants whose native language is not English are required to take the TOEFL exam. Unless special permission is obtained from the director, full-time students may matriculate only in the Fall semester. The campus-based program is not designed for the part-time student.
