Iam in need of some assistance folks. As you can see from the subject line, SCSI is not my friend. I have a HP/Compaq DL380 G5 server that is set up with two LSI SCSI Ultra 320 SCSI 2000 series, w/1020/1030 series cards. Upon reboot I get the following error message:
Obviously, this is a problem as I need to configure my card to work correctly/accurately. So, my question is, what is causing this, why is it doing this and how do I make it behave itself so I can configure it to do what I want it to do?
There in lies the problem. I can not access the Control-C therefore I can not do what I need to do. Also, further investigation has led me to believe the card in of itself is bad and will need to be simply replaced. Some of the digging I found on the net is that this could be the problem and reason why the message displays.
I had/have the same problem. I found that if I tap F12 to get the boot menu, it shows my M.2 SSD drive as an option. If I select that, it boots every time. I have no idea why this works, as I've never seen this behavior before.
I tried to update BIOS but after update asap it restarts again it shifts to legacy mode. So, I switched to USB install but after disabling legacy mode from BIOS it restarts again and says no OS installed on hard disk. After that I went to boot from devices(pressing F9) but it does not show any boot device and later on when I checked into BIOS in UEFI mode it shows no INTERNAL HARD DISK but below it there is legacy mode which shows INTERNAL HARD DISK.
That is what it should do. If you disable legacy mode for this in the firmware and only allow EFI boots then it needs something to boot from which is not legacy. If all what is on the disk is MBR&old_windows then there is no EFO bootable option.
After upgrading to 6.10.0 the server stopped booting with the message "Unraid boot device not found" after the 30 second time out. Tried formatting the USB, and doing a fresh (didn't copy my config folder across) manual install of 6.10 but the issue was the same. Have manually installed 6.9.2, copied my old config folder across and am backup and running with out issue. So seems there is a bug\issue in 6.10.
In terms of the USB stick it is one I brought years ago and is the exact model that is pictured in the guide and I saw various things saying it was the most popular stick to use. If thats not recommended any more then it should probably be changed in the guide to some thing else. As you said I doubt the stick is an issue as it is running 6.9.2 perfectly.
Unless I'm missing some thing the solution was "I created another fresh install with the stable branch and it seems to be working now". Have tried a fresh install of 6.10 and its the same issue, 6.9.2 works fine.
I had this same issue. I tried to remove the USB drive and run the "make bootable" bat file and it kept giving me an access denied to MBR error. I was able to work around this by copying all of the contents of my USB drive to my hard drive, zipping it, creating an ISO from the zip file using AnyToISO 3.9.6 Lite Version and then writing that ISO to the USB using RUFUS making sure to name the volume UNRAID. It booted fine after that. Maybe this will help someone else with the same issue.
Also tried every USB port on the PC and went in to the BIOS and tried every possible option related to USB. The result of changing the BIOS was either it made it not boot from the USB key at all or the issue was the same.
EDIT: I have a feeling it's exclusively for checking the usb id for license check, which would be quite annoying (to bring down the whole server because of a failure in simple license check). Even Windows doesn't completely disable itself when the license activation fails.
So I'm playing about with the currently and have managed to get 6.10 to boot. If I initialise the USB as MBR and then turn on all the boot compatibility options (CSM) in my BIOS\UEFI setup it will boot. Initialising the USB as GPT and using UEFI boots to the USB key but then fails at the "waiting up to 30 sec for device with label UNRAID to come online" with the Unraid boot device not found error. This must be some sort of bug in the code as 6.9.2 works with no issues formatted as GPT with CSM completely disabled.

I tried changing pretty much every USB and Boot related option. As dumurluk said the USB is seen after the boot, the screen shot shows that is is detected just before the error message. It is what ever process is supposed to detect the UNRAID label on the volume that's not succeeding. Also if I unplug the USB at the error message the Linux system shows it being disconnected and if I plug it back in it shows it being detected again.
Tried both, no difference. Unraid 6.9.2 boots in usb3 and 2. Like I said, it's not an issue with booting. It boots fine, unraid gets loaded up in ram, it's only when the init steps are happening, unraid somehow thinks the flash drive is not there (likely for license check).

Right. The OS can boot from the flash drive but then when it enumerates the USB devices looking for a flash drive with the label UNRAID in order to mount it at /boot , it fails somehow. If the flash drive isn't able to be mounted at /boot then there is no configuration information and the system can't continue.
Nothing really made a difference except using a MBR partitioned USB with legacy boot (CSM) turned on in the boot options. GPT partitioned drive I can not get it to work no matter what I put. It either did the exact same thing or I stopped form booting at all which was basically tuning on CSM and setting it Legacy only which I would expect as its GPT and legacy boot doesn't usually work with GPT.
I have nothing except for the USB boot drive and an ether net cable connected to it usually. Connected a keyboard and VGA monitor to trouble shoot the booting issue that's it.
Just recently upgraded most of my pc components. I kept the SSD and the HDD. When I turn on the pc, the bios flash screen comes up and tells me to hit F1 to run setup. When I go into setup, everything looks fine, except there are no boot devices. When I exit out, I get no display, and have to restart the pc. If I put the Windows 7 Pro installation disc in, I get the same screen telling me to run setup. When I hit F1, I see that the DVD drive is recognized as a bootable device. I go into the bootable menu and click on the drive, and the of restarts. When it restarts, it recognizes the Windows installation disk and starts to load files. Then the splash screen comes on, but freezes there forever. Everything is new except for the drives. Do I need to replace them as well?
May I ask if you are currently using the ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI or the ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI II?
Both models, as per the official website specifications, support the operating systems Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit.
Could you please attempt to verify the relevant settings using the supported system versions?
For guidance, you can refer to [Motherboard] How to install Windows 11? The installation process for the Windows 10 operating system is also similar.
I bought a new HP 570-p050 Mini Tower with 16GB Optane module and Win 10 Home. Booted, configured Windows, all looking good. Then I removed the Optane module, placed another NVMe module in there (256GB, the C: drive for a broken laptop on which I needed to do data recovery). Booted fine into Windows on the 256GB module, I copied the data I needed to a thumb drive, then I shut down, removed the 256GB module, and popped the 16GB Optane back in.
Now when I try to boot, I get a no boot device found error. The BIOS does see the octane module (and the HDD), so it not improperly seated in the slot etc. It seems the happy Optane-HDD pairing has been broken. Any remedies for this short of a wipe of the HDD and starting over?
Luckily, there was no data of value on the system when I removed the Optane memory. Ideally, you can help me re-enable the Optane memory with no need to erase the main partition of the hard disk, but if the best way to resolve this problem and re-enable the Optane memory is to erase the main partition and restore the system from the recovery partition, then I OK with doing that. I just need to know the steps to take.
I successfully chose "Reset to non-Optane" for the module in BIOS. Upon rebooting I still get the "Boot Device not Found" error. So the HDD is not being seen as a bootable device. Further, when I try to use F11 in the Startup Menu to enter System Recovery, that fails to the same "Boot Device not Found" screen. I think the HDD might be in an offline mode because of its previous pairing with the Optane?
Thanks for the followup Andres. I have not had a chance to do the reinstall, having been pulled onto other projects. I don't see any problem with reinstalling the OS with the Optane removed, then installing the Optane and reconfiguring with the Intel software.
The moral of the story for me is: do not remove an active Optane module! We bought this particular PC because it had a M.2 NVMe slot that I needed for a data recovery. I was not familiar with the Optane memory feature. Now I am!
