Another study investigated a commonly used ranking system, the United States News & World Report (USNWR) Best Hospital rankings, relative to TO[13]. Of note, patients who underwent hepatopancreatic surgery had increased odds of achieving a TO when treated at a DCC vs NCI-CC (pancreatic resections: 22% higher chance of a TO; liver resection: 31% higher chance of a TO), despite the fact that DCCs more frequently cared for patients with multiple comorbidities[20]. Higher TO rates translated into reduced Medicare expenditures at DCCs, which suggested a higher value proposition of DCC vs NCI-CC in the treatment of patients with hepatopancreatic malignancies[20].
