The 4,1 and 5,1 Mac Pro are 99.9% identical. The only major difference being the kind of processors they take in a dual-processor setup. So, giving the logic board of the 4,1 the firmware of the 5,1 allows you to do everything a real 5,1 Mac Pro can do.

I am going to purchase 2009 model dual processor. Now I have pc3-10600 UDIMM. The unit I will purchase does not have ram nor gpu. Now I have spare rams of the above spec. Can I use them in the purchased unit to turn it on?

This worked like a charm. But now I cannot select the startup disk on boot (.e. alt/option) on boot. This is all to get Windows Bootcamp install off of USB to work. USB disk is ready but now I cannot get it to boot off USB. I was hoping 5.1 upgrade would help. Now I cannot even select the start-up disk. Any thoughts?

But when I try to run Mac Pro 2009-2010 Firmware Tool, it says it needs to be updated, and the icon has a white circle/slash on it. This typically happens on 10.15 with 32-bit apps, which are no longer supported.

pigsyn/MacProFirmwareToolUpdate on github this is the way to go, at least for mavericks. Both the original and patched version of the app gave me 5530/5570 errors on mavericks, but the shell script works very well (also way easier to modify if needed).

I cloned my ElCap 10.11.6 startup drive and I plan to upgrade the clone to HS, to test whether HS will work without breaking legacy software, including Adobe stuff, drivers for film scanners, large printers, calibration tools, etc. If for any reason I am not happy with HS, I want to be able to swap my original El Cap startup drive back into my system.

hi, i was able to run high sierra and mojave on my 4,1 unflashed by simply using carbon copy cloner, cloning my other macs and putting the hard drive into my mac pro, mojave didnt run very well, and didnt recognize the display. it seemed to think it was a projector since the dock had a solid black backround. but high sierra ran perfectly. with no hiccups.

Back in the day, I started with a used 4,1 Quad, upgraded it to 5,1 Hex (Thank You Netkas and Romulator!), then picked up a used 5,1 Octo and upgraded it to a 12 core. Adding GPU, RAM and storage was easy and neat, and the machine was a real workhorse. I helped a lot of friends these upgrades, and a lot of music has been crafted using those hacked Mac Pros.

The fans on my 2009 Mac Pro are running at full speed after upgrading the CPU tray to the tray from a 2012 12 core. Temperature monitor reports that the CPU temperatures are steady 32 and 34c, and all other temperatures are within that range, and other than the howling noise my Mac Pro is running perfectly normally.

I can't run AHT or diagnostics because neither are installed on the machine - and I don't know what I've done with the installer disk. I have reset the SMC and NVRAM to be sure it's not a simple software / configuration fix.

[I can claim nothing but Google-Fu on this one. My SMC is the same as NoahL's 1.39f5 so I can only presume mine has the original 4,1 daughterboard, with 3.46GHz Westmeres added after-market. I bought mine ready-upgraded, so it's not a process I've ever done myself.]

The system and CPU board SMC version remains at 1.39f5 for the MacPro 2009. A Mac Pro 2010 uses 1.39f11. After upgrading a Mac Pro 4,1 to 5,1, the SMC firmware was still 1.39f5. SMC mainly deals with temperatures and fan speeds. It is important that the SMC version of the CPU and system are the same. So to answer my question, it is not possible to use a 5,1 CPU board in a 4,1 system or vice versa. I'm not sure what happens when mixing them, but apparently the system does either not boot or the fans go crazy, perhaps depending whether you put a 5,1 cpu board into a 4,1 system or vice versa. Here are some links I found meanwhile for reference:

Btw, the firmware upgrade tool 4,1 to 5,1 shows error 5570. That is because Apple changed the location of the 5,1 efi firmware image. You can however download the 5,1 firmware from Apple and simply mount the disk image prior to running the tool and it will work fine. Then shutdown the system and hold down the power button until a tone occurs, then the system will restart and show a progress bar to update the firmware.

The firmware upgrade changes the Model from 4,1 to 5,1 but does not change the SMC System Version or the SMC Processor Tray version. These must match. These should both be 1.39f5 with an original 4,1 or 1.39f11 with anoriginal 5,1.

For this, NetworkToolbox offers various individual Tools. Tools forinformation gathering, such as Device, Shodan, Morpheus, Map and Domain, and tools for in-depth analysis or connection by using certain protocolsor ports.

For instance, after locating your network via Shodan, you can directlyping and even scan the network, and once you have identified open ports, you can directly access each port by selecting the appropriate protocol. All findings can then be bookmarked for later reference.

I hereby disclaim any responsibility for actions taken based upon theinformation in this App, and urge all who seek information towards adestructive end to reconsider their life, and do something constructiveinstead.

On the main Tools screen, you will find all theindividual Tools of the App which can be started by tapping the icon, just as you do with the App icons on the main, home screen of youriPhone/iPad device.

The Spyglass ? Icon at the top can be used to search for a particulartool by entering a search term. Searching for FTP for instance willreturn the FTP and SFTP Tools as well as the Glossary Tool with thedefinition of the term FTP.

In some cases, such as search tools like Shodan or Morpheus or the Port-or Network scan tool, another search will not be started but insteadwill conveniently show you the results of your last search and no extratime-consuming search is necessary. If, however, you want to performanother search, you just need to go back and press the Search buttonagain.

The command-bar, located between the content screen and the navigationbar, contains buttons depending on the current situation. For instance,if you select the FTP protocol in the Telnet tool, you will see adifferent set of commands than you would had you selected the Telnetprotocol.

Please also note: Besides SSID and BSSID, no furtherinformation about your WiFi connection (e.g. signal strength, channel, other available WiFi networks) can be displayed by any App.Apple has restricted access to this information to their own Appsand the iOS itself.

Under Resources, Tutorials and Identify hidden Appconnections you will find a tutorial which explains how to usethis Tool to find undesired network connections of Apps on your device.

Shodan and Morpheus are search enginesthat let you find devices such as computers or routers on the Internet. You use them just as you would use Google to search the Internet forwebsites containing specific terms.

It is important, to enter good search terms or search criteria. Otherwiseyou will get too many results or no result at all. As a good startingpoint, you can use the HTTP-Head tool and inspect similar websites ordevices and look for specific terms in the HTTP Header, which can beused as search term.

Once you press Search, the Shodan or Morpheus database will be queried. The results will be displayed in a list. This list shows the host name,if available, in the title of each entry along with detailed informationsuch as IP address, operating system, location and actual deviceresponse.

Please note: It is up to you and depends on the lawin your country on where you are allowed to proceed from there. Upto this point, you will just see what a device responds to anybodywho connects to it. This information will be sent also for instanceif you visit this particular device with your web-browser. But inthat case, the browser will not show you what it receives from theserver and only displays the website. It can be interesting anduseful to analyze such responses but it will definitely not beallowed to use this tool to find and break

This tool combines a Whois search, NSLookup, Reverse Domain Lookup and generalIP Information tool. It is useful should you wish todiscover the provider and location and DNS (Domain) information about anIP address or hostname or just the IP Address of a host or vice-versa.

Whois query results are not standardized. Several registrationauthorities provide their information in various formats and atdifferent information depths. This is, why websites or other Apps justprovide raw text output of the results or they charge for individualstructured results.

However, this tools tries to interpret the query result and to presentit, in the usual, structured format. In some cases (e.g. forwhois.nic.uk), where this is not possible, you may also see just rawinformation.

In case the domain name you entered includes one or more subdomains (e.g.mail.yahoo.co.uk), the tool will convert the name to the base domainname. (e.g. mail.yahoo.co.uk will be converted to yahoo.co.uk ormail.google.com will be converted to google.com).

On the result list, you will first see information about the registrarunder the IANA Information section. As this informationis not necessarily provided by the usual whois.nic.DOMAINregistrar, this section might also contain valuable information.

Use this option, if you quickly want to get an overview of the componentsin the IP Address range. The results are not as accurate (complete) as afull scan but you can press the refresh button to repeat the quick scan.

This feature has been introduced since MAC Addresses can no longer beobtained on iOS 11 (see note further below). The consequence was, thatnot even the hardware vendor of a particular device can be displayed.Until iOS 11, this information was quite useful to identify the device.

The Advanced scanning feature will now add as much additional informationas possible to the result list. In some cases, this may even include theMAC address where it is possible to find the MAC address using othertechniques. Often, it will provide at least as much information to giveyou an idea which device is behind a certain IP address. In some cases, even this feature can not provide any further information.
