Hey,
I wouldn't think you could w/o destroying the very yeasts and
bacterium that we are using it for in the first place.
Although slightly annoying, I don't find it starting till near the end
of the batch which would be pretty much a week in the fridge. I do
know that the reformation has saved a couple of people who have lost
the mother for one reason or another
I'd be pretty sure that you would have to use prob. heat like canning
it to completely stop.
