Came across activeCollab which is more or less a clone of Basecamp (37signals.com) and is Open Source.
I installed it on keeptrackof.it/projects/ if/when the need arises to formalize some efforts based on discussions here.

A guest user has been created in activeCollab for the purpose of
pinging this list with project/task related messages.
It's a passive approach to keeping you looped on anything that may be
going on under the board.
