Help getting started on making an extension for image OCR

Hi,

I am really enjoying KeepNote and would like to work on an extension to add image OCR using an open source tool like Tesseract.

So, I am reading the developer info but could use some guidance:

I would like to catch when an image is inserted so I can run the OCR on it - where should I look for the various hooks the Extensions class has and does anyone recommend a certain hook or method for tasks like this?
