maybe easier/better than tables? Elastic tabstops

Hi,

I just read that tables will come 'in the distant future' because they
are hard to implement in the current gtk component.
I'd like to propose Elastic tabstops. maybe easier/better than tables?

Gedit (which I believe uses the same gtk component? not sure...) support
this already.

They are really handy and fast to type.
