KDS Keeps Interrupting

I've been having an intermittent issue where I'm typing away in some app and suddnely hear a jillion error beeps because my keystrokes are rejected. Some process is interceding, de-selecting the text field I'd been working in.

And it looks like what is happening is that Keep Drive Spinning is the process (here's how I know: I have an app that shows current app in the MenuBar, and whenever this happens, I look up and see KDS, rather than the app in which I was working, named as the frontmost process).

I've had KDS for several months now (currently running v3.0), without a problem. But now this happens every minute or so. It's driving me a bit crazy. Any ideas?

I somehow made this go away. But now, a year later, it's doing it again. I really need to jot down cures for stuff so I don't endlessly need to keep resolving problems. Can anyone help?

One year later, same problem again. This is my life. Endlessly re-solving the same small problems.
