One more question if I may-

I have an external HD that has several disk images on it-do 'open' disk images also sleep? I noticed that Keep Drive Spinning does list open disk images-is it necessary to select them as well as the underlying external HD?

No. The disk images will appear in the list, but you can safely ignore them. Working with the physical hard drive itself is sufficient.
