Did you know:
- The average home loses approximately 40% of its energy through leaks
- Indoor air quality can be 2-5 times worse that outdoor air quality, according to the EPA
- You can potentially receive up to $4,000 and more in rebates from utilities and local governments for an energy upgrade
Update on Andronico's Closure
Regarding the University Avenue Andronico's: Andronico's does not own the site, but holds a lease which is currently before a bankruptcy judge. The City office of Economic Development is working to ensure continued occupancy of the UN, Gray Panther, and League to Women Voters offices (all sub-lease from Andronico's) while the matter moves through the bankruptcy court. Not until the bankruptcy process concludes (which should be soon) can active discussions with the owners on future uses proceed. The staff will be exploring potential grocery candidates for the site. Judging from the email activity I've seen, everyone wants a grocery, affordable, and of good quality. Some ideas discussed on a neighbor e-mail tree: a cooperative food store and a Market Hall configuration.
Berkeley Animal Care Services – Special Program for Seniors: 60:6:60
A squirming young pup may be fun to watch, but it may be hard to keep up with. If your puppy years are behind you too, you may find that an older animal might just be the perfect companion.
The City of Berkeley Animal Services wants to make it easy for you. If you are 60 years or over, and you adopt a dog or cat that is 6 or more years old, you will get a 60% discount on the adoption fee.
