Thanks and certificates

Dear all, 

a couple of people were asking about certificates of participation in the GP society for 2011-2012.

If you'd like a certificate, please email me and let me know of any particular activities you contributed to.

I can then get Val to sign them and post (if you give addresses)/scan and email out to you.

Thanks to all for your hard work over the past year and I hope that you'll continue to be involved one way or another.

I think for this year we will leave the society for students only, whilst we are finding our feet. However, next year we will invite GPs along to most events and try and tailor them to suit everyone.

Hi Jess, 

some GPs may indeed wish to come, it depends what the talks will cover (so if it suits their needs): party how its sold. If you think the topics/talks are suitable/aimed at medical students only, then that's fine. If the speaker aims at a mixed audience (And it is obviously important that the speaker know the audience will be mixed) GPs may wish to come ie in simple terms if the sports GP is talking more about his career/how to develop an interest in sport medicine rather than how to examine shoulder in an OSCE! Certainly for big names like Roger Neighbour they will want to attend.  

From the society perspective it depends if you want to facilitate students mixing with GPs, or develop relationships between students. Both good and possible aims, but somewhat mutually exclusive I think (though if people think differently I'd be happy to disucss). 

Pure socialising is a little more difficult in terms of boundaries eg its difficult to relax in front of someone you may have to be involved in discipling at some point! Do the consultant surgeons go to the ball?

Unfortunately Peter Coventry had to cancel, we are rearranging him for early next academic year. In terms of asking the other GP tutors along, it all depends on if you think they would come along. Also do you think any GPs would be interested in coming to the GP/Surgical Society ball? We have 12 tables of 10, so perhaps if there was 10 people who wanted to go that would be great. It's at Crewe Hall the 18th May, tickets £30 for drinks reception, three course meal, band&DJ...oh and lots of fun!!

ie,would you like faculty and or GP tutors to be invited? If so, they suggested posters (on top of the your usual well organised announcements/facebook stuff), an email to the staff list for faculty and for GP tutors Margaret Bourke should be able to send round a carefully worded email. 

It all comes down to what you'd all like the society to be (and what the speakers are expecting I guess).

As you know there are currently elections underway, and I am very pleased to say that I am the new GP SOc president.

Deadlines for applications are the end of April and then the new committee will come in to play in May time - I think it would be best for Neyha to switch over before finals.

The GP/Surg Soc ball has been arranged for Friday 18th May at Crewe Hall and sounds fantastic! Please tell all your friends and invite them along!!

Roger Neighbour is being delayed until October now.
