Hi Kedma Board (assuming that's who's receiving this email),
For those who don't know me, I'd like to introduce myself - my name is Hart Levine and I work on Jewish life and outreach on college campuses (though an organization called "Heart to Heart"). I want to pass on a slightly different opportunity that I've been working on with the OU, which I think would be relevant to you as leaders of the budding Orthodox community at GW:
The leadership of the Orthodox Union and the Seif Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus (JLIC) would like to invite you to participate as an official delegate of your university at the first OU JLIC Orthodox Student Leadership Summit. The summit is to take place on February 8-10th in New York City. The summit, which will include representatives from dozens of campuses, will culminate in the creation of a national Orthodox student leadership network that will support the needs of Orthodox students and communities on college campuses, with the support of the Orthodox Union and JLIC. The itinerary will be a series of facilitated conversation regarding the unique needs and challenges of Orthodox students and identifying the manner in which a national framework of students with the support of the OU could help meet those needs and support the healthy growth and functioning of those communities. We will also discuss the development of additional intercollegiate opportunities. The conference will be capped by the election of a student committee of dedicated leaders from among the delegates that will be tasked with further developing the national leadership of the network, develop budgeting priorities, and interface with executive leadership of the Orthodox Union.
I really hope that you can make it - I'm sure you will have a lot to contribute at the Shabbaton and to the network, and it's sure to be an enjoyable, productive, and inspiring weekend for you as well. If you can't make but can think of someone else who'd be a good representative of GW's Orthodox students, community, and interests, I'd appreciate if you let me know or passed it on to them - we'd really like there to be a delegate from GW's Orthodox community.
If you have any questions, or if you're interested in coming, please let me know and I can send additional details or try to answer your questions.
Thank you,
Hart Levine
