I am somewhere in between. I like to get an overview of what to expect in a new language, without trying to remember anything. Then I like to refer to grammar resources from time to time as I acquire more experience with a new language.
Most starter language learning books consist of 70% grammar rules, with related exercises. The amount of text, learning content, stories and the like, is rarely more than 10% of most beginner books. This is backwards. The learner needs more interesting text together with a vocabulary list and some focus on key basic patterns that show up in this text. This will help get the learner through the lesson, and hopefully enable them to understand a good portion of the text, so that he or she can go on to the next text.
Starter books in foreign languages should minimize the explanations, which are often hard to understand and harder to remember, since they refer to an as yet unfamiliar language. It is a good idea to highlight some key patterns or phrases in each lesson but minimize the explanations, rules and drills.
Your brain is following the model of what you have been exposed to. Your brain is constantly making adjustments. This is what the brain does for all phenomena we encounter in life. This process whereby the brain creates patterns to deal with uncertainty and novelty is what enables you to speak naturally and freely with enough exposure to the language. If you rely on your recollection of grammar rules, you will always doubt yourself. Even when you say something correctly, you will doubt yourself. You should rely on the language habits you have acquired while speaking.
Of course, you will mostly forget what you see there, just as is the case with using a dictionary. However, this activity in combination with continued listening, reading and speaking will slowly improve your command of the new language.
I'm fairly new to NLTK and Python. I've been creating sentence parses using the toy grammars given in the examples but I would like to know if it's possible to use a grammar learned from a portion of the Penn Treebank, say, as opposed to just writing my own or using the toy grammars? (I'm using Python 2.7 on Mac)Many thanks
This will probably not, however, give you something useful. Since NLTK only supports parsing with grammars with all the terminals specified, you will only be able to parse sentences containing words in the Treebank sample.
Also, because of the flat structure of many phrases in the Treebank, this grammar will generalize very poorly to sentences that weren't included in training. This is why NLP applications that have tried to parse the treebank have not used an approach of learning CFG rules from the Treebank. The closest technique to that would be the Ren Bods Data Oriented Parsing approach, but it is much more sophisticated.

The simple fact is you cannot have a fictional movie without it. At its very base, the willing suspension of disbelief is the way a Director makes the audience forget that what they are experiencing is simply a movie. That is the headlock I talk about; the audience becomes so engaged in what they are experiencing on the screen they forget that it is a movie.
When telling a visual story, be it live action or animation, it is important that the viewer understands what is going on up there on the screen. Confusion in the audiences mind means loosing that headlock.
Sometimes a subjective voice is desired. The Subjective Camera allows the audience to participate more fully in the interior life or perceptions of a character. This is different from the strong subjective POV which is an approximation of what the character is seeing.
In most films, logical coherence is achieved by cutting to continuity, which emphasizes smooth transition of time and space. However, some films incorporate cutting to continuity into a more complex classical cutting technique, one which also tries to show a psychological continuity of shots. The montage technique relies on a symbolic association of ideas between shots rather than the association of simple physical action for its continuity. Continuity is grounded in the basic rules of cinematography.

One of the best ways to do this is by using action within the frame to motivate and to hide the edit itself. The action within the frame can be very subtle; if a person simply moves his eyes and looks a different direction, that might be a perfect frame to make your cut, provided that the other side of the edit reveals what it is he just looked at.
Another general rule that aids in hiding edits is to match shot types, CU to CU, MCU to MCU, and so on. One of the most important aspects is to match eyelines (at least if the two subjects are supposed to be looking at one another), but even when cross-cutting between two dissimilar scenes the smoothest edits will be ones where the overall composition of adjacent shots is similar or reciprocal.
If we are going from one shot of a character or object to another shot of the same character or object without an intervening shot of something else, the camera angle must change by at least 30 or the focal length of the camera must change by 20%.
If a character exits a frame going from left to right, he should enter the next frame from the left if we intend to convey to the audience that the character is headed in the same direction. If we break the rule and have our character enter from the right, the character will seem to have made a u-turn.

I have a simple artificial language. It has about 200 words and it has a grammar. I am trying to figure out how to learn that grammar, which I think is called grammar induction, then print those rules. I have found a few papers specifically about what I want to do but 2 are in Chinese and the other was way over my head because I am new to NLP. I am looking for, if possible, very simple example in that I learn better by reading code than papers. Does anyone have any ideas?
Papers With Code probably has precisely what you're looking for. Search for your paper in there. As for libraries, Keras is super simple to get started with. Can get it stand-alone or included in TensorFlow which includes many advanced useful tools.
I also can't fall back on convention when looking at what other big players do.
Amazon doesn't treat labels as titles and only capitalizes the first word. BestBuy does treat labels as titles and implements the grammar rules linked above.
In the quick search I did, I've seen more companies that don't treat labels as titles than companies that do treat label as titles. But the difference is not that significant to finalize our discussion.
I know the grammar rules mentioned above are more like guidelines, and since it isn't about some important report where the right grammar really matters. Any rule, guideline or strong argument in favour of one of the options is helpful.
