Dear All,

“Khasakkinte Ithihaasam” needs no introduction to Malayaalees. With that one masterpiece, OV Vijayan became the most read author in Kerala and beyond. It is a work that we keep going back to and keep finding new meanings and points that we can relate to. Allapicha Mollakka, Ravi, Maimuna, Appukkili, Chandumma, Nijamali, Kuttaadan Poosaari, Madhavan Nair….they all live among and within us. Indeed, it has been said that this novel is the milestone that demarcates Malayalam literature as before and after Khasak.

Given the greatness and importance of this novel, there have been many who have wanted to create a visual experience out of it and none have really succeeded. Till now, that is – Deepan Sivaraman, a most talented Theatre Director has risen up to the task and created a wonderful play based on his reading of Khasaakkinte Intihaasam. Deepan is a noted personality in the Indian theatre space and is a winner of many awards including Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy Award and Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award. More details on Deepan can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deepan_Sivaraman

The play requires a grand setting and requires quite a significant effort to organise. Under normal circumstances, we at Bangalore would not be able to watch it here (even in Kerala there have only been two programs till date). NECAB has stepped up to the plate and decided to organise Deepan’s drama “Khasakkinte Ithihaasam” at Bangalore, in partnership with Blue Ocean Theatres. There will be three shows, one on each day, on May 6th, 7th & 8th. The venue will be finalised soon and will be informed to all.

Successful conduct of this event will be a matter of pride for all Malayalees in Bangalore and an inspiration for others. Such a big format event can happen only with the help and support of many. We are hoping that many in KEA and other alumni associations would step forward to be part of the organising team. The main areas that need support are:

·         Help publicising the event

·         Help selling tickets (we plan to sell 1000 tickets each day)

·         Help with the actual event

This is our event and it is up to us to make this successful. I look forward to support from everyone. We have set up a FaceBook page for the event: https://www.facebook.com/nammakhasak/. Please Like and Share this page so that the page has maximum reach. Please do also share this mail in your respective alumni associations. If you would like to be part of the organising team, do let us know!

Let us make Namma Khasak a great success! Thank you!

Best Regards

Rajeev Gopalakrishnan

President - NECAB
