Subject: [PROMUDA-Circle] The Story of Kassim Baba & the Village Idiots

Dear all,

Below is the story of "Kassim Baba & the Villagers Idiots",  a modified version of the P. Ramlee`s epic film "Ali baba Bujang lapuk".

  • For those not familiar with the classic film, Kassim Baba is the older brother of Ali Baba.

  • Upon finding out that Ali Baba made his fortune by stealing from the 40 thieves, Kassim Baba decided that he too can make such a fortune by following his brother's footsteps.

  • But Kassim was too greedy. Instead of stealing one piece of jewellery at a time like what Ali did, Kassim wanted to wipe-out the entire cave of the treasure.

  • So on one fine day, he rented a truck and drove to the where the treasure is stashed.

  • Whilst in the midst of clearing out the cave, unfortunately he was spotted by the 40 thieves and killed on the spot.

In my modified version below, Kassim Baba was not spotted by the thieves and so he was not killed.

Instead the story goes on like this .

  • A of group of villagers spotted him whilst he was in the act of stealing. Since they  thought  he was committing a crime, the village head, Jamil, decided to report the matter to the authorities.

  • So Jamil and a few villagers went along to meet the country's leaders to report what they had just seen.

  • The leaders met Jamil and told him to follow up the matter with the country`s anti-theft & corruption spokesperson.

  • So on they went to meet that person.

  • The country at that time was undergoing an all-out campaign to weed out corrupt officials. In the heart of their anti-graft initiative, was a campaign to educate citizens  on the perils of corruption.

  • In the process of being granted a meeting  with the spokesperson, Jamil and the villagers had to undergo an intensive one day course  organised by the spokesperson`s bureau.

  • During the course, they were exposed to the government's initiative in tackling corruption. Various KPIs on corruption were revealed, also a brainstorming lab was created to get public feedback on ways to reduce theft and graft.

  • Jamil and the villagers were thoroughly impressed and thought what a good and responsive government that they have.

  • But when it  was time for the spokesperson to speak at the closing of the course, Jamil and the villagers were shocked beyond belief!

  • It was the same person whom they saw looting from the cave the other day! And he is Kassim Baba, the spokesperson!

  • That sight immediately shattered their new found confidence in the country`s anti theft and graft initiative.

  • Of course, the villagers didn't keep their mouth shut. Word soon spread throughout the country about this shocking piece of news of Kassim Baba's true colours.

  • Everyday, the citizens would get to see a glimpse of Kassim Baba on TV, as being the spokesperson, Kassim had to talk about the anti-theft and graft campaign for the Government.

  • But little did the country leaders know that the citizens were all mocking behind their back.

  • "This Kassim Baba is worse that the 40 thieves. What those thieves took years to stockpile, dia sapu semua overnight. And now the Government appoints this person as it spokesperson on theft and graft? Don't they know? Do they think we villagers are idiots?" a villager was spotted as talking to his neighbour.

  • Not that long after, it was time for the general elections.

  • When the election results came out, the ruling party was shocked to find out that they had been voted out of power.

  • They were perplexed as they thought they had the confidence of the citizens. They thought all along that their campaign on anti-theft & graft was successful with so many convictions recorded, all KPIs had been achieved, plus they had a song theme, a new logo & bla, bla, bla.

  • So they decided to meet up with the citizens to find out what went wrong. In particular, to find out what was wrong with their anti-theft & graft campaign.

  • A meeting was quickly  arranged in a packed town hall.

  • In the midst of getting the citizens' feedback, one villager idiot was heard shouting across the hall to the country's leaders ."It's not the PROCESSES, stupid, but the PEOPLE in charge of the processes that you should have first tackled first in order to build up confidence!"

Salam,

Don
