The IPM suite of tools: GAP, GAP TRANSIENT, PROSPER, MBAL, PVTP, REVEAL, MOVE and RESOLVE can be run together seamlessly, allowing the engineer to design complete field models. The models can include the reservoir tanks, all the wells and the surface gathering system. IPM can model and optimise the production and the water or gas injection system simultaneously. With the Reservoir, Wells and Complete Surface Systems model completed and the production history matched, the production system can be optimised and production forecasts run.

With the use of RESOLVE and OpenServer the IPM approach has been extended to connecting the PETEX software to third party software such as Reservoir Simulators and Process Simulators. These products form a suite of complementary tools assisting engineers to improve their reservoir simulations by describing and modelling a production system more accurately.

The MOVE suite is the most complete structural modelling and analysis toolkit available. It provides a full digital environment for best practice structural modelling to reduce risk and uncertainty in geological models.

The MOVE suite provides a platform for integrating and interpreting data, cross-section construction, 3D model building, kinematic restoration and validation, geomechanical modelling, fracture modelling, fault response modelling, and fault & stress analysis.

PE Limited (Petex) is a petroleum engineering and structural geology company, developing a wide range of software tools. We are a team of highly skilled professionals with extensive experience in petroleum engineering, structural geology and engineering software.

MOVE is kinematic software that allows users to either remove deformation and resemble stratigraphy to its undeformed state, or sequentially deform strata to illustrate how faults and folds develop with time. The MOVE suite provides the complete range of tools to build, balance, restore, and analyse cross-sections at a local and regional scale, as well as build detailed and complex 3-D models linking surface and subsurface geology and geometry. In addition, the suite contains modules that facilitate isostatic, fracture, and fault response modeling, as well as fault, stress, and isostatic response analysis.

To support ongoing research and teaching in the Department of Earth Sciences and Geologic Resources, Petroleum Experts Limited (Petex) donated the MOVE suite of software valued at $2,764,444.18 to the department.

The department greatly appreciates the opportunity Petex provided for our students and faculty to work with the MOVE software suite. The software will be used in a range of courses from upper-level undergraduate to graduate courses on geologic mapping technology and tectonics.

Brent McCusker, professor of geography and chair of the Eberly College Department of Geology and Geography, said the Petex software is an asset for teaching and research activities. The software is used in four undergraduate- and graduate-level courses focused on structural geology for energy extraction, geomechanics for petroleum and geothermal systems, 3D subsurface methods and reservoir brittleness for energy storage.

Samuel Ameri, professor and chair of the petroleum and natural gas engineering program, said donations such as the Petex gift are critical components in the education and preparation of future engineers at WVU. Hundreds of undergraduate students, graduate students and faculty benefit from access to the software, which aids in research focused on reservoir engineering, reservoir simulation petroleum geology/well log interpretation, stimulation design and horizontal drilling.

Petroleum Experts, which has U.S. offices in Houston and Lafayette, Louisiana, is providing a free license to six of its commercial software products, which include GAP, PROSPER, MBAL, PVTP, REVEAL and RESOLVE. This suite of tools allows petroleum engineers to dynamically model oil reservoirs, production and injection wells, and surface pipeline networks.

The MOVE suite is the global industry standard for structural modeling, and its software modules include 2D/3D kinematic modeling, geomechanical modeling, sediment modeling, fracture modeling, fault analysis, and stress analysis, to name a few. When using the MOVE suite, Wooster faculty and students are able to interpret data, build cross-sections, and kinematically and dynamically analyze structural histories. More information about Petroleum Experts Ltd. and the MOVE suite can found here.

Software donations play a key role in our classrooms. They allow our students to get hands-on training with applications created for the oil and gas industry. These educational software grants, or licensing agreements, also benefit the donating company by allowing future petroleum engineers to train with and use their software. That way, these young engineers know the strengths and usefulness of the products.

Petroleum Experts provided educational licenses for their IPM software suite. This software does well modeling and design, reservoir analytical simulation, fluid depiction, and multiphase network optimization. Specialized reservoir simulators and combined production controllers also use this software. The value of this donation is $3,816,620.08.

Petroleum Experts (Ltd) ( ) a recognized global standard in petroleum engineering and structural geology software tools continues to support the research and teaching mission of the Geosciences and Geological and Petroleum Engineering department at Missouri S&T. Petroleum Experts (Ltd) is providing 10 one year licenses of both the Move and IPM software suites ( -suite/ and -suite/ respectively). These software packages are the industry-recognized standards and are valued at a combined total of $5,002,502.52.

The IPM suite is the standard across the worldwide oil and gas industry and is currently used by more than 350 oil and gas companies. The Petex IPM software allows for the modeling of full oil and gas production systems by capturing the physics, geology, engineering and fluid thermodynamics of the system from reservoir to oil and gas wells to the surface pipeline system and process. Once built, these models are used to optimize production for existing oil and gas fields and to assist with the system design of new fields.

The Petex software will be used by approximately 100 petroleum engineering students at Missouri S&T in courses and for research purposes. S&T students will have access to the full Integrated Production Modeling suite, which consists of the following:

Daniel Quick, a Ph.D. candidate, is our resident expert for The Move suite. The Move suite is one of the most powerful and complete software packages for analysis and modeling of complex geologic structures. The ten different software toolkits that comprise the Move suite allow for 2D and 3D kinematic modeling of geologic structures, including Geomechanical Modelling, Fracture Modelling, Stress Analysis, Fault Analysis, and Fault Response Modelling. In addition, communication packages that allow Move to work with Petrel, Open works, and Link GST are also being provided and may be used in course work in Petroleum Geology.
