Hi Jim -

What do you do for feedback on a new song you're writing?

See this link: http://sivers.org/songfeedback

When I was at Berklee College of Music, then later living in New York
City, I loved the songwriting workshops where you'd play unfinished
songs for one teacher/mentor and a room full of other songwriters.
They'd really tear it apart, analyze every note and word, and suggest
improvements.

But that was then and that was me.  Now I'm really trying to
understand other people's approaches to this.

The more info you can give, the better.  Your thoughts could be useful
to other songwriters, too, which is why I'm asking on my blog instead
of by email.

If you could leave a reply at the bottom of that page, it'd be really helpful:

Thanks!

P.S.  Check back in a few days to see others' comments, too.  There
are a lot of brilliant songwriters in my network.

I play it, over and over for me, and then try it out on my significant other, Cyndy, and the Songwriters Circle gang at a New Song Night, usually in Kansas City on the third Friday of the month. Occasionally, I'll try it elsewhere, and try to gauge the reaction of the audience.

Usually, if it's being played for a songwriter-heavy audience, someone I know will give me an honest reaction to it. (That's why I really like the reaction I got Saturday night for my newest song!)

All opinions expressed above are precisely that, and are my own.
