About GRACE Ministries of the UMC (From web)

This faith-based organization was established to address the most pressing material and spiritual needs of low-income immigrants in the region and to empower immigrants to become community leaders. GRACE Ministries provides emergency food, clothing, household items and diaper distribution and healthcare information at seven United Methodist Churches in Northern Virginia.

GRACE Ministries also provides job training programs for personal care aides, certified nurse aides and for CDL/ESL training for school bus drivers. This combination of services is meant to provide as assistance to ease emergency situations and also provide a more long-term employment solution that will offer career opportunities in areas of significant workforce needs.

Existing since January 1999, GRACE Ministries is an independently incorporated 501(c)(3), community outreach program of the Arlington District of the United Methodist Church.

 

Mission Statement

GRACE Ministries of the United Methodist Church is a community outreach program serving low income families living in Northern Virginia.

Your support helps us gather resources to address the varied needs of families from many nations.

Food, clothing and diaper distributions are held monthly at seven area churches:

·        Arlington UMC – Arlington, VA

·        Centreville UMC – Centreville, VA

·        Crossroads UMC – Ashburn, VA

·        Culmore UMC – Falls Church, VA

·        Floris UMC – Herndon, VA

·        Mount Olivet UMC – Arlington, VA

·        St. Stephens UMC – Burke, VA

 

GRACE Ministries also offers three job training programs:

·        Personal Care Assistant (PCA) Training - students are prepared to become home health aides. English as a Second Language (ESL) training is included in the class.

·        Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training - students are prepared to become

·        Fairfax County school bus drivers. English as a Second Language (ESL) training is included in the class.

·        Multicultural Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) training - students are prepared to become nurse aides at nursing homes, hospitals, assisted living facilities and home health care agencies.

Grace Ministries at CUMC: 4전 정도 되었음.

매달 2째주 토요일 아침 (Doors open at 7 a.m.)

 

Set up: Friday: 4-8 p.m. Volunteers (about 30 people in need?)

Capital area food bank 에서 음식물 가져옴. USDA approved.

 

Saturday

7 a.m.  Registration Table (Lobby). Receives a number.

          Orientation / Devotion (남미 목사님 인도, Fellowship Hall, 음악)

8 a.m.  Leader calls the number.  People gives general information

          Receives plastic bag.

          Rooms:

o   정부 음식 방 (USDA Approved – frozen chicken, cooking oil, can food…etc)

o   내/외부 음식 방 (Panera bread…)

o   가정용품 방: 비누, 책, 그릇, 이불,…

o   기저귀 방: 교회에서 매달 $1000 지원.

o   장남감 방, 여성옷 방, 남성옷 방 (양말, 속옷 포함),

9:30 a.m. 끝, 정리 정돈…

 

·        매번 약 150 가정 섬김.

·        USDA Gov. form 에 income,  가족사항, 주소 등등을 구두로 받음.  No ID asked (신분 증명 묻지않음).

필요한 물품 기증:

·        책, 장남감, 옷, 학용용품, 새 기저귀,

·        Clothes donated by church members and others, if left, given to the Salvation Army.

·        The Grace Ministries Purchases food & USDA approved food.

·        The Church purchases diapers from Wal-mart. $1000/ month from the Church fund.

Many Volunteers needed

·        Check in table:

·        Fluent Spanish, Korean preferred.

·        Elementary children welcome. Fifth graders also volunteer to distribute diapers.

·        Runners (쇼핑카트에 담아서 차에 실어주는 봉사자들).  Service hour credit 받음.

·        Donation Boxes (Can food, dry food - set up all over the church).

·        Fliers and information table (Heath… education…. Gospel tracts, devotional)
