Continuing selected work from kcp in the kcp-edge community

  Some of you have asked how you can stay involved with developing some of the concepts created by the kcp community while a new owner steps forward.  Namely, the KCP-Edge community would like to:

A) finish the rebase kcp to v1.26 of kube,

B) develop a client-side abstraction layer for logical clusters which continues the kcp concept of ‘logical clusters’ or ‘super-namespaces’ - it should be possible to treat any kubernetes implementation as part of a logical cluster fleet,

C) contribute the same concept of logical cluster/super-namespace back to upstream (in the form of a KEP), and

D) contribute a “generic control plane” library back to kubernetes - again taking the kcp concept of a custom and minimal kube api-server, controller manager, and single-node etcd node and promoting it to upstream for the purpose of gaining support and creating a standard kube library distribution that anyone can benefit from. (in the form of a KEP).

Hello all,

I have started https://docs.google.com/document/d/17zW7Ghuu2MVVBqjgzkkkkqVQ3w6k3q2VR7031WHl5as/edit# with a collection of tasks for a future kcp maintenance, both one-time tasks and ongoing maintenance. Feel free to add more.

IMO we should have a proper coverage with people/companies if we decide to keep maintaining the code base. For that we have to decide which are core pieces and which are not. From there we can heavily deprecate those we don't think we can carry forward.

As preperation for tonights meeting, please try to complete the list and think about where your interest and capacity is.
