Dear KC Iraq Task Force Supporters,

Thank you for your years of work to bring all of the troops home from Iraq. While the removal of U.S. “combat” troops is a step in the right direction, leaving 50,000 U.S. troops and 75,000 military contractors is not a real withdrawal.

See below for two opportunities to speak out and learn more.

The first is an invitation to a Open Conference Call on U.S. “Withdrawal,” which will  take place tomorrow evening, Wednesday, August 25, at 7:30pm central time. It includes a link to ways you can sign on to a CodePink “Iraq Debacle” campaign.

The second is a flyer inviting you to the August 31, Tuesday, 8:00pm, Countdown to Withdrawal candlelight vigil at 47 & Main, KCMO.

Hope you can join us!

Sincerely,

Ira Harritt

Hello Everyone,

Join our call to find out from Raed Jarrar and Phyllis Bennis the facts and fiction surrounding US troop "withdrawal" from Iraq. Also, scroll down to see what you can do to continue pressure for a total US military withdrawal. Please forward to friends and colleagues.

What: Open Conference Call: US Troop "Withdrawal" from Iraq - Facts and Fiction

218-339-4300
CODE: 082510# (date of the call)

When: Wed. August 25, 8:30PM EST
Who: Raed Jarrar, AFSC and Phyllis Bennis, IPS

When MSNBC proudly broadcast their exclusive report on the early departure of the "last remaining" US combat troops from Iraq, many across the country were not as elated by the news as the reporter. With 50,000 well-armed troops remaining, 75,000 contractors, the largest US Embassy on the planet, US-built bases throughout the country, and violence on the rise many are feeling that this is not the end of our blood and treasure drain in Iraq.

While the Peace Movement can be proud of our efforts to move the country faster toward a complete end to US military involvement in Iraq, our work is far from over. We still have thousands of Americans inside Iraq supporting a government that is corrupt and unpopular. It's time to let the Iraqis handle their own affairs. Let them rebuild their country and safely return millions of their citizens back home. Our interference in Iraq's internal affairs has harmed too many and we are bound to do more damage if we stay.
.
Join us for an enlightening call this Wed. Find out from Raed Jarrar what is going on inside Iraq and between the US and the Maliki Governments. Phyllis Bennis will discuss what lies ahead for the Obama Administration and implications for the Peace Movement.
