According to Defense. Secretary Robert Gates “any future defense secretary who advises the president to again send a big American land army into Asia or into the Middle East or Africa should ‘have his head examined.’”

Demand that our leaders not forget the massive debacle that this war has been

And Demand they learn and not repeat the mistakes of the past!

8 Years of War in Iraq

& The Death March Goes On

Saturday, March 19

3:00 to 4:43pm

(Vigil 3:00pm; Rally 3:30pm; March of the Dead 3:45-4:30pm)

And also please take a moment to read today’s Wage Peace newsletter and action step acknowledging yet another Iraq war anniversary.  I believe that nonviolent practice and movements have the power to transform structures of violence.  From Gandhi – to King – to the people power movement that removed Marcos in the Philippines.

We call for

End The Wars And Occupation!

Fund Jobs, Health Care & Human Needs - Not War Profiteering

The event is intended to remind the KC community that the Iraq war goes on and to remember the past and ongoing human and economic costs. We will ask our leaders to quickly and responsibly end the wars and replace our nation’s reliance on military might with diplomacy, humanitarian aid and strengthening internal and regional peace processes.

Although “combat troops” have been removed from Iraq, some 50,000 U.S. troops remain, backed by tens of thousands of military contractors. On this anniversary we remember consequences of eight years of war:

     4,439 American troops (47 from KS; 88 from MO) and over 1 million Iraqis killed;

     Over five millions Iraqis internally displaced or refugees outside of Iraq;

     Over 32,000 U.S. troops wounded (411/KS; 753/MO);

     $900 billion spent or approved on the Iraq war (11/2010) and some economists estimate the direct and indirect costs of the war to reach $2 trillion dollars.

We ask Marchers to wear mostly black with a hood or dark head cover if possible. We will have “March of the Dead” masks or bring your own.
