What’s Your Favorite Alternative to Ten Years of War?
Dear Peacemakers,
October 7th marks ten long years of war in Afghanistan, the longest war in U.S. history.
The futile war has been a tragic failure, wasting U.S. and Afghan lives, digging us deeper and deeper into debt and doing more damage to our economy.
The Afghan people have grappled with war for three decades and it has been devastating. However a brighter future for both the U.S. and Afghanistan is possible. It depends on what we choose to do: More war or investment in jobs and a sustainable government in Afghanistan and here at home.
We invite you to join us in actions to mark the Anniversary of Ten Years of War in Afghanistan. You can participate in one or both of these events on Friday, October 7:
Help deliver a Report Card On The War In Afghanistan to Senator Roy Blunts office in downtown KCMO, 911 Main Street, Suite 2224 (We will meet outside the office building on Main Street. Please leave your self time for parking and arrive by 4pm – or contact us to car pool.)

Thanks for your commitment to peace!

Ten Year of War on Terror =
· 1,800 U.S. troop deaths · 17,611 to 37,208 documented direct & indirect Afghan civilian deaths · over $460 billion U.S. tax dollars wasted · Increased anger at U.S. in Afghanistan and in the Muslim world | · U.S. support of a corrupt and unwanted Afghan government · U.S.’s increased use of target assassination, drone attacks and greater and greater “collateral damage” |

Action Alert
Call in on Federal Budget
Today And Tomorrow
As thousands protest the government's skewed priorities in the streets of New York and cities across the country, the twelve legislators on the "super committee" hold immense power over the US federal budget. They are preparing to make recommendations that could impact us all for many years to come.
These members are charged with finding $1.2 trillion to cut from the federal deficit over ten years. Their recommendations, to be completed by November 23, could affect every federal program: Social Security, Medicare, services that feed and house the poor, foreign aid, the military, tax policies, and more.
Please call your Senator or Representative October 4-5 and ask for a budget that reflects your values!
AFSC is working with others in a grassroots effort to change what seem to be the priorities of the super committee with our Move the Money Action ToolKit.
There are tools to help you – and your community – to spell out the changes necessary to make the federal budget reflect our values.
Thank you for continuing to take action and we hope these tools help you to Wage Peace,
