Hi everyone,

Typically I might write something inspirational and inquire about everyone’s fantastic summer, and how we have recharged our creative energies for the fall semester. I still have these hopes, but as you know our spring and summer have not been typical. So, this year I will start by saying that I hope you all have found spaces for reflection, for strength, for resilience, for humanity, and for a return to theatre.

As you know all regional festivals will be going virtual this year. This is still a work in progress, and the eight regional chairs have been meeting regularly as have members of the region III planning committee.

We are still finalizing the details of what the festival will look like, and the make-up of specific programs of the festival, but there have been some  decisions that will help us get started in our fall planning.

Registering a Production:
If your institution is able to produce and would like to register a production please go to the following link  http://kcactf.org/production-entry/Fall2020-production-entry-form.html

This form will allow all schools to register their fall Associate and Participating productions for free.

Participating Productions:
Right now there is no way to indicate if your production should have “Participating Status” we plan to add a box that registrants can click on, but this has not yet happened. If you register a show and want it to be considered as a participating production please email me at kcactf...@gmail.com

*Please note that participating productions that are selected to be invited to the festival, must secure the rights for streaming a performance, provide a high quality recording of the play, or provide their own platform and technical support for a live stream.

Associate and Participating Virtual Responses:
Schools will have the option to request a virtual respondent for associate productions, and schools with a participating entry must have two virtual respondents. Respondents can be scheduled as synchronous or asynchronous, and responses are optional. If you do not have streaming rights or the ability to record your production schools can self-nominate students for Irene Ryan’s and other certificates of merit.

Irene Ryan Nominations:
Schools will also have the option to nominate students for the Irene Ryan’s if they are unable to produce theatre at their campus this fall. These nominations will be in addition to any nominations schools have from the spring of 2020. Region III is determining what the limits will be for nominations for each institution, and will be sending out complete festival news at the end of September.

The Virtual Festival
If you are not able to produce theatre at your campus this fall, there are still going to be many ways you and your students can get involved at this years festival. The Region III team has been working all summer to determine how many of our regular events will be part of the festival, and where we will need to adapt or drop some of our regular programs.

I can state with certainty that this will be a festival unlike any we have ever been a part of before. By the end of September the regional team will be making announcements regarding each event/program and how they will be implemented for 2021. Accordingly, the cost of the festival will be reduced ed by 80%, so registration for all participants will only be $20.00.

I wish all of you the best this semester, and hope that you can practice, produce, and create safe and meaningful theatre.
