This group was formed quite a while ago before there was easy access
to better formatted groups like the many Yahoo groups that relate to
railroading but i guess once a newsgroup is formed it just stays and
stays.

So it's here - on standby - lately not even any spam posted to it
which must mean it doesn't show up on most systems - don't know.

My days of trucking are over and that will end most of my Amtrak
travel since I was usually on the train in connection with a
deadheading leg in my driveaway life. I ended up with an unused Amtrak
ticket from DEN to Osceola IA - though I was deadheading back to
Osceola after moving a truck from Des Moines to Denver but a 2nd truck
evolved and I didn't need the ticket, Ninety bucks - hope i can get
all or most of the money back. Should go see about that in fact. Also
have about 10K points on Guest Rewards since i was putting a lot of my
travel expenses on my Chase Guest Rewards credit card but now that i'm
not trucking don't much need the reward points - but they'll keep and
I'll find a way to make use of them. Be nice to take my wife up to
Chicago for a couple of nights so they won't go to waste.

What's new in KC railroading? The small intermodal yard at 16th Street
in NKC just east of I-35/I-29 is gone - tracks yanked and it's back to
bare ground. We're looking more interational all the time with more
and more TFM Mexican locos seen in the yards.

Hi Dick,

I check this group daily, but rarely post anything.

Many Usenet news servers filter out articles posted on Google Groups due
to the spam.

I despise Web forums, and so far in all these years, I've been able to
avoid Yeah-Who. ;-)

Have you lost real NNTP newsgroup access?

I'm still here too Dick. There are so many places to post under the heading
'kc rail' today including several Yahoo and Google 'groups' and of course
Trainorders occasionally has something to say about our area. I quit paying
for 'T.O.' several years ago cause it was mostly a west-coast forum. It's a
little better now but anything significant usually gets cross-posted to the
other groups so I don't see that paying for T.O. is worth it.

Anyone reading this probably has access to these usenet groups that I also
subscribe to: alt.binaries.pictures.rail, alt.binaries.pictures.railroad and
alt.binaries.multimedia.rail. If you like train photos and videos head to
these groups.

Facebook has a interesting group called the 'Missouri River Runner' operated
by the Missouri Department of Transportation. Recent posts includes news
about the opening of the new platform at Sedalia and the visit of UP 844
later this month.

There are a few 'email' newsletters out there. Some are private in nature
like the local NRHS group but one that every KC rail enthusiast should know
about is called "Brass Switchkey railnews'. To subscribe send a email to
Dick Wilson at Wilg...@aol.com.

Another newsletter - in print and sent by mail - 'The Mixed Train' published
by the Camerail Club of Omaha. Dues are STILL five dollars a year, send to
P.O. Box 241165, Omaha NE 68124-5165.

You mention TFM- also include Ferromex as frequent visitors from Mexico.
Another common sight are CSX motors. KCS uses CSX power on the nightly
Scheider intermodal train, UP also has some intermodal run-throughs and CSX
engines are almost an everyday sight at the 18th Street Yard in Kansas City,
Kansas. BNSF also sees a few CSX engines. You never know what will show up
today. A good place to see visitors is at the east end of the KCS Knoche
Yard (kinda across from the Sears warehouse store). While there also check
out Mid-America Car, always something interesting to see there.

Hiball to all the KC Rail readers, keep watching this group and the rails
and be careful out there.
