I'm going to visit my mom in Virginia for 1.5 weeks. She's the
primary caregiver for her sister, my aunt, who has end-stage
Alzheimer's. Hospice has been wonderful, but mom's still the 24/7
person. While mom doesn't let me do as much as I'm willing to do, I
still help her with the heavy lifting and other tasks. And with me
home, she doesn't have to wait for a volunteer to come and stay with
Aunt Julie while she runs errands or just gets out of the house.
I went home back in July, after Aunt Julie had been with mom for a
month. Alzheimer's is a heartbreaking disease, and at the same time,
watching Aunt Julie has made me so thankful for so many little things
I take for granted.
So, I'll be thinking of you all -- and I'll be getting lots of
knitting done on this trip!
