Happy New Year!

Debra L. came by the Studio last night and shared a wonderful shawl
pattern for crochet -- Seraphina Shawl (http://www.angelfire.com/
journal2/donisfuff/croshawl.html has the pattern). The photos and
illustrations are so detailed that maybe *I* can even manage to
crochet this at some point!

You've no doubt seen the news about the Elms retreat sponsored by the
Studio. Deb Connor is having a Prayer Shawl session during the
retreat. See http://www.thestudiokc.com/ for more information.

Also, we're having a "hair removal" sale at the Studio. Furry, hairy
yarns are $3 a ball. Some of these retail for over $10 a ball, so
it's quite the deal and these yarns make great embellishments, or
beginning/ending yarns for a shawl. I stopped in the Studio on
Tuesday and several customers were knitting prayer shawls and stocking
up on these yarns. Again, see the Studio's website for more
information.

A true story. I had bought yarn for a feather and fan wrap many years
ago, and back in November I dug the yarn out (Colinette Prism) to knit
the wrap for me. I finished the wrap and last week I blocked it -- it
took a couple of days to dry because the yarn is a thick/thin type of
yarn-- it was dry last Thursday. Monday night of this week I got the
news that my cousin's daughter-in-law had delivered their first baby
prematurely -- little Aaron Daniel was born on 7 January and wasn't
due until 1 March. Please keep them in your prayers -- little guy's
brain is underdeveloped and he's in a ventilator. Kimberly, my
cousin's daughter-in-law, had high blood pressure and placenta
problems, hence Aaron Daniel's early delivery. Anyway, once I got
that news Monday night, I asked my cousin's wife if I sent her a
prayer shawl, would she get it to Kimberly. So, that lovely wrap went
into the mail Tuesday morning and she should have it today. I hear
repeatedly that as soon as a wrap/shawl is finished, if it's not
intended, God shows you the need.

I know it's a little confusing to read "my cousin's daughter-in-law."
I'm an only child, and my cousins are like my siblings -- and always
will be. Thanks for reading and thank you for your prayers!

We will be meeting again this spring. I'm hosting the 1st Thursday of
the month meetings -- 6-8pm at the Studio.

cheers!

My fellow Prayer Shawl coordinator, Laura Gayle, has not had the best
year in 2007 and 2008 is not looking too good for awhile either.
Laura is always kind and upbeat and thinking of others much more than
herself. So, the shawl she was making for herself--and she could use
some comforting--goes to someone else. Laura is a talented knitter,
so making a shawl for her is somewhat intimidating, but is anyone up
to the challenge? I know that she would welcome it, especially
towards the end of February, when she will be off work for awhile. I
know she would welcome feeling encased in our love and "hugs" as she
says.
As Laura mentioned, the Studio class calendar is in its final stages
of preparation....should be available before the retreat at the Elms.
I checked the retreat sign up sheet yesterday and at least 4 people
are attending the Sunday morning prayer shawl session...new recruits!
I am also asking attendees to bring stash yarn to contribute to our
ministry, in return they get their name in a drawing for prizes. So
our tub should be full again soon.
Prayer shawl meetings will continue on the first Sunday of the month
from 1-2:30--hosted by me and the first Thursday of the month, hosted
by Laura Gayle. (Laura--are you wanting to change from 2nd Thursdays?
Also, I am trying to arrange a one anniversary of our ministry at
House of Menuha in late April or early May, a saturday luncheon and
afternoon event. More on that later.
Love to all ... keep knitting and dropping those shawls off!
