LEARN HOW TO EAT LOCAL IN KC AT THE OLATHE PUBLIC LIBRARY From Gardens to Markets to CSAs
Emily Akins, member, Kansas City Food Circle Coordinating Committee, and Season Burnett, director, Kansas City CSA Coalition, will relate how to find local, sustainable methods for eating, buying, making, growing and preserving food while reaching out to your community.
Kansas City and the surrounding suburbs are peppered with local -- often organic -- farmers dedicated to building a local “food shed” through farmers’ markets, community supported agriculture and CSAs, community and school gardens and other local efforts. The best time to sample the local harvest is now, at the height of the season.
For more than a decade, the Kansas City Food Circle has connected organic farmers with consumers throughout the metropolitan area. The recently created Kansas City CSA Coalition serves as a hub to help “eaters” find CSAs to join and CSA farmers find their market. Burnett and Akins will share the many options available throughout the Kansas City area and help attendees decide how they can obtain the freshest, healthiest food available.
