Greeting from Odisha Khadya Adhikar Abhiyan!

We are glad to inform you that we have resumed sharing monthly updates from this month onwards. We will be sharing important news, policy developments and interventions, and actions by members of the Campaign. We would try to share the monthly updates regularly from this month onwards. Also, we have attached the letters released by the center and state government, kindly, find the attachments herewith.

Secretariate Odisha Khadya Adhikar Abhiyan

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, food, and public distribution by stating that due to the leveraging the implementation of technology in TPDS reform NFSA, the states/UTs have reported cancellation of about 4.28 crore ration cards deleted in India from 2014-2021 whereas in the same year 6.86 lakhs deleted in Odisha only because of digitalization of ration cards, de-duplication process, permanent migration, death, etc. Apart from it, regarding this food insecurity,

PM POSHAN (Midday Meal Scheme)

During Covid-19, the PM POSHAN (midday meal scheme) was stopped but in this month, the state government has decided to resume this scheme in the school level from April by following standard of procedure for the implementation in every school by providing hot cook meals to the students at school.

Integrated Child Development Scheme

Department of women and child development, the Government of Odisha has decided to reopen the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) in the states and continue the Anganwadi service including the Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) with the adherence to COVID-19 protocols with the effect of the 28th March 2022. As per the letter released by the Department of women and child development, to provide hot cook meals and eggs were given to the Anganwadi children of the age group of 3-6 years children.

Public Distribution System

In the same month, the Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, food, and public distribution decided to extend the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) till September 2022 by keeping with the concern and sensitivity towards poor and vulnerable sections of society. Odisha govt has decided to continue the same for State Food Security Scheme beneficiaries.

Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme

On 28th March 2022, the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, has been increased the wage rate per day for unskilled manual workers by the sub-section (1) of section 6 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (42 of 2005).  With this rise of wage rate, the current wage rate in Odisha is Rs 222/- which was Rs 207/-.

Apart from it another major step taken up for the disbursement of wage payment under MGNREGA to wage seekers of all the category (SC, ST and others) through the single fund transfer order (FTO) with the effect from 1st April 2022-23 reg.

The Right to Food Campaign has sent a letter to the Prime Minister of India sharing the findings of the Hunger Watch survey conducted in 14 states across the country which shows an alarming state of food insecurity and demanded urgent steps required for ensuring universal access to food security.
