Dear KBA Community Members,

Wishing you a prosperous 2020.

The KBA Standards and Appeals Committee (SAC) is planning to publish Ver 1.1 of the KBA Guidelines ahead of the IUCN World Conservation Congress in June 2020. To meet this deadline, we will need to have a final version of the text by 15 April 2020. Dr Charlotte Boyd (SAC Chair) plans to circulate a complete draft to the KBA SAC and TWG for review at the end of February 2020, with a request for feedback by 20 March 2020.

The SAC is currently working on the three main sections missing from Ver 1.0 (i.e. Criterion E, B3c, and distinct genetic diversity), plus an appendix on G-ranks.

The SAC is putting out a call now for suggested edits to any other sections of the text – this is not a request to review Ver. 1.0 again; rather, if you have been using Ver. 1.0 and have noticed any issues that need to be addressed, this is an opportunity to let Charlotte know now, so that she can include proposed edits in the draft for circulation at the end of February. You may forward any comments to Charlotte Boyd chai...@keybiodiversityareas.org by 15 February 2020. Ver 1.1 of the KBA Guidelines can be downloaded from https://portals.iucn.org/library/sites/library/files/documents/2019-001.pdf

Kind regards,
