An early decision made during development was whether or not to have Kyle Katarn as the playable character. This was due to the character already being a powerful Jedi Knight, and, as such, starting off with the Force skills would affect the gameplay.[16] To resolve this issue, Raven chose to make the playable character a student in the Jedi Academy. By using a completely new character, the developers were able to insert features that allowed the player to customize the character, including race and gender, as well as the lightsaber color, hilt and type. The Kyle Katarn character was then made an instructor in the academy so as to remain integral to the plot, to ensure Jedi Academy built upon the existing Jedi Knight series storyline.[16] Raven extended the customization further as the game progresses by allowing the player to choose specific Force powers to train upon completion of missions. This was done with the intention of giving freedom to choose the way and style the game is played.[18]
It's fairly easy to host a server and then friends can join either on the same LAN or across the internet as well. There are a variety of different servers you can host, depending on the mods you have, but for standard JKA, use this: -jedi-academy-dedicated-server-for-win32/

The Jedi Temple of Luke Skywalker, also known as Luke Skywalker's Jedi Academy, Skywalker's Jedi academy, or simply the Jedi Academy, was a Jedi temple located on Ossus that was used by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker to train a new generation of Jedi during the New Republic Era. Skywalker trained Grogu, Ben Solo, and many other students in and around the temple grounds. Following a confrontation between Skywalker and Solo, his apprentice and nephew, the temple was destroyed by Solo with a powerful lightning storm.
Although it is most often referred to as a temple out-of-universe and most of the times as such in-universe, several out-of-universe sources refer to it as an "academy," such as the Star Wars: Card Trader card "The Fall of Luke's Jedi Academy",[28] a 2020 reference book Star Wars: The Lightsaber Collection,[29] and one in-universe source "Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger," directed by Dave Filoni.[10]
In Star Wars Legends, Luke Skywalker trained his new generation of Jedi at a Jedi academy known as the Jedi Praxeum[31] on Yavin 4.[32] After its destruction by the Yuuzhan Vong[33] Skywalker reestablished the academy on Ossus,[34] the same location it was initially established in canon.[7]
