UPMC Health Plan and Community Care Behavioral Health Organization (Community Care) have received the top score of 100 on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation's 2023-2024 Corporate Equality Index, the nation's foremost benchmarking survey and report measuring corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ+ workplace equality. This is the sixth consecutive year that UPMC Health Plan has earned the award and the fifth year for Community Care.

The integration of resources from UPMC Health Plan, UPMC, Community Care Behavioral Health, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy helps create a challenging Managed Care Residency Program. Highly motivated pharmacy residents have the opportunity to apply safe and effective evidence-based medicine practices to individual patients as well as to larger populations. The Health Plan has access to complete health management information for members, including data on hospital admissions, laboratory values, diagnoses, and pharmacy claims.

PGY1 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.

To provide a quality, hands-on educational experience with the goal of shaping a well-rounded model practitioner. We will accomplish this by offering a variety of rotations both onsite and through our external partnerships.

To build upon the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and outcomes to develop pharmacist clinicians with diverse patient care, leadership and education skills who are eligible for board certification and postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training. A managed care pharmacy residency will provide systematic training of pharmacists to achieve professional competence in the delivery of patient care and managed care pharmacy practice. To prepare pharmacists for positions in a managed care organization, health plan, or pharmacy benefit manager. Residency graduates will be qualified for a position in prior authorizations, clinical programs, MTM, disease state management, formulary utilization management, quality, account management, pharmacy benefit management, consulting, or a similar type of position within managed care.

Applicants must have completed a Doctor of Pharmacy program and be eligible for Pennsylvania licensure. Resident is required to obtain Pennsylvania licensure no later than 90 days after the start of the residency year.

United Concordia administers dental benefits for more than 8 million members and 26,000 clients, including state and local governments, unions and many of the top 100 Fortune 500 companies. Through UPMC Health Insurance, University travelers are automatically eligible for Assist America services. Assist America services include emergency medical services such as help with hospital admissions, referrals to qualified physicians, and emergency medical evacuation. In addition, it also provides assistance with trip preparation such as advisement on required immunizations and location of medical facilities at your destination. NOTE: Eligibility for Assist America is for UPMC Health Plan policyholders traveling more than 100 miles from home for less than 90 days. Expatriate coverage is available for purchase for trips exceeding 90 days. Contact Assist America for the enrollment form.

Pitt employees may choose from a variety of medical benefit plans offered by UPMC Health Plan, including a health maintenance organization (HMO) plan and preferred provider organization (PPO) options that provide greater flexibility to meet specific health care needs. All plans offer a broad range of comprehensive benefits, including wellness and preventative-care benefits and the same Prescription Drug Program.

The most popular of Pitt's medical plans, Panther Gold HMO has a low deductible and lower costs per visit than other plans when members choose providers within the UPMC Advantage and UPMC Health Plan networks. Members are responsible for copayments except for wellness and preventative care services.

Note: If you live, or are planning to live, outside of the Western PA area, it is recommended that you do not select the Panther Gold Plan. The coverage/in-network area for the Panther Gold (HMO) plan is limited to the Western PA area. Counties excluded from this Western PA network include: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Mifflin, Montgomery, Montour, and Philadelphia.
