...long live the Silver Shadow.

Since the Versys' electrics came over all Italian I decided to but my
losses and not pay for any more repairs. So it's been traded in. The
Silver Shadow arrives next week.

Pete, nope. Although it does look very much like my old 125.

I'll post a photo when I pick up the bike.

Is it a proper bike, i.e. a kwak or is it german? :-)

Think I'll be on the 600 for scotland...I doubt the rear tyre on the
14 would still be legal by keswick.

You've wrecked a rear tyre already? Get a new one.

Seriously though, which is the most comfortable to ride? The 600 or
the 1400?

I test rode a GTR1400. That is one astonishing engine but after 200
miles I still couldn't get comfortable. This means my run of
Kawasaki's over the last 8 years has come to an end. I don't do
chains anymore and the GTR is the only shaft drive Kawasaki do.

Most comfortable? Probably the 600 - its more sit up and beg and less
weight to hussle. Although I've not really done any long distance on
the 14 yet, most I've done in a day is about 150 miles on it. However
I'll still learning the 14 and getting used to her. My biggest bug
bear is the official kawasaki sat nav mount - looks as though it sits
perfectly below the clocks in between the fork ends, buts its too low
to comfortably look at and as soon as you put a bagster tank bag - its
blocked out. So I need to experiment a little with that.

The rear isn't quite wrecked yet - I've done about 1300 miles and the
bridgestone it comes with is fairly soft. Owners I've spoke have
struggled to get more than 2k out of it, although avon storms will
alledgedly last around 4-5k.

But yes the engine is fantastic, the handling is surprising good and
the road presence is like nothing else, car drivers actually see you
coming, I guess thanks to the headlight set up. The silly power
figures etc are all a bit meaningless, and its frugal for its size - I
get around 42-45mpg even with the odd warp speed run. I just need to
get the tamiya model kit now...

Anyway enough about ZZR's whats your new mount?

Nice, it even has a topbox. Not practical in London though.

Hi Martin,
8 years old. 6 weeks younger than my GS. It's only done 38,000
miles. Soon sort that out though.

Now I only need to have one set of spare bits in my garage. Both
bikes are mechanically identical for all bits that really matter so I
don't even need to buy another manual.

It's really comfy and I can ride at 70mph with my visor open if I
have the screen set right.

It's on commuting duties this week so it'll get a proper shake down
to see if there is anything wrong with it. So far so good.

Regards

Nice bike Rob like the idea of a bit of comfort on long journeys
I'm tempted myself but don't do enough long trips to justify at
present. A bit more street presence than your average commuter bike.
The London Police all seem to ride them these days so you just need
the right coloured helmet to guarantee you a clear path.

Pete
