Not been alot of talk on the mods of an ER5 on this forum since i have
been registered but i am a member on the http://www.bikersoracle.com/er5/forum/
aswell and there is a few discussions on mods i.e. GPZ Carbs, GPZ CDI
unit, Fork Mods and other things that you might like to check out. Not
that i am trying to get you away from this forum just that there is

Rob C(The Orange Odyssey needs a ride)
Jack, the rough plan is something like this:
Friday: Meet mid-England - Northampton area. Ride up the west side
and stop for the night somewhere in the Lake District;
Saturday: Ride through Scotland to John O' Groats;
Sunday: Ride down through Scotland to somewhere in Yorkshire -
possibly the coast;
Monday: Do as we normally do, find a nice route home and split up
wherever someone has to turn off.
I've not planned any routes and I have no idea of the mileage so I
don't even know if it is feasible yet.

Anyone else?
Accommodation preferences then? Camping, hotel/B&B or a combination
of both?
I'll start the planning when I can get my route planner software
working again.

I don't want to camp. Getting a bit old for it and anyway it's more to carry and therefore to try and keep control of on my bike.
Having said that those dates are good for me.
Cheers!

I'll B+B it, but if you guys wanna camp, by all means go ahead!
Bazza
p.s. after the test ride I have lined up I may still be in a state of
shell shock by then...
I've got the route planning software working now and I've got a decent
route (judging by my paper AA map) planned from Northampton to Keswick
via the Peak District (Snake Pass) and Yorkshire Dales(Garsdale Pass).
When I've done the rest I'll post them.
Personally, I've not decided if I'll take my tent. I think Saturday
and Sunday are going to be long days and going by how long it took to
pack up and get breakfast each morning on the Long Way Across trip it
might just prove to be too much. Where possible, I'd like to use
Travelodge's (or similar) and if we book soon we should be able to get
cheap rooms.
Hopefully, I'll have the routes pretty much sorted by the weekend.
Then we can go about finding accommodation somewhere close to each
days end point.
So, just the four of us? None of the other usual suspects coming?
Simon, we're coming up your way if you fancy a day or two on the road.
Phil, it's been a while since you came with us.
Pete, you up for it? I know you don't mind a high mileage weekend
when the company and beer is good.
Jason, Ross, you know you both want to.
Steven, you still alive?
Barry, trading in the ZZR? What's coming next, ZZR 1400?

Rob C(The Orange Odyssey goes back to work tomorrow)
Yes, I'll meet up with you on the Saturday or the Sunday.
I had thought I was going to be away at the Manx GP (have gone for the last
6 years) but a check of the calendar shows departure day is Tues. 24th Aug.
(The bank holiday is on Monday 30th)
Keswick and Garsdale are only about 100 miles from here.
Might even drag out the ER-5 - that would be novel!
Simon

Ok, 30,000 miles up on my ER5 and I need a new chain and sprockets. Any advice on the best ones to get and where to get them? Gericke's do the lot for £100. Sound reasonable?

I have good experiences with the tsubaki omega chains, and also with
RK xw-ring chains on my ER-5. I can advise you not to buy a cheap
chain, my experience is that the more expensive chains last so much
longer that in the end they turn out to be the cheapest option.

As you're getting close to retirement, can't you wangle a sickie and
blame it on your ageing joints or something? Then hop on your bike
for 4 days of R&R.
Anyone else want to come along? Dave? Geoff? Anyone? The more the
merrier - remember each of you needs to buy the organiser a beer or
two. If enough of you come along I need never get close to the
bar :-)
