K-Team 05, 06, 07:
Some of us have been there 3 times....so we know how much chaos and despair is going on in New Orleans today.......

A MANDATORY Evacuation has been ordered........if there are 300,000 people who live in NO, that means about 90% (high side) will evacuate.....that means that 30,000 will refuse the order, and will fend for themselves........they may be floating around in a toxic soup seeking their own survival soon.  If 90% of them are good and decent people, the remaining 10%, or 3,000 might have alterior  motives of looting, or mischief.

The vast, vast majority will choose to evacuate peacefully.....but what does that mean?

Many will leave by loading their cars full of anything of value.

Many will leave by bus or train.  I heard today that the trains can only run until approximately 3PM today due to the fact that the lines run through flood gates and those gates must be closed and sand-bagged.

Those who leave on government bus, or charter bus lose all control of their lives.  They may only take a few of their belongings.  Many will end up in Houston, or Mississippi, or as far away of Knoxville.

They will experience a huge de ja vu of the whole experience.

They will fear for their homes.  They will not know about wind damage, flooding, or looting.

During the aftermath of Katrina, the residents were scattered.  They had little ability to contact loved ones, family, or even check on their pets.

Many left thinking that they would return in 3 days, but were unable to return for 3 months.  Imagine the agony of not knowing even the most basic information about your family and community....your future.

Here is Brenda's story as she told it during our Mission Trip 2008  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApFbOgs2Ns4
Here is Mr. Morale's Story from 2007   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16MTxFoMdog

When they did return, they found their houses soaked, filled with mud, and their furniture and belongings strewn about.  Many opened their doors, closed them again, and sat down and cried.  They could not deal with what they saw.

In the midst of it all, they will morn their loss of their culture.  Up until 3 years ago, this loss has been unthinkable.  Before Katrina, New Orleans was like a country of its own.  The culture as thick and rich as anywhere else in America.  To leave New Orleans would be as moving to another country.

Gustav appears to be a certain event....and I don't know why.

I don't know why we are having one of the most beautiful days of the year, when our brothers and sisters are experiencing despair.  (Again, imagine getting on a bus...with 2 bags of stuff, with no idea when you will return??????  can we even imagine?)

At the same time, we know that the Sovereign God of the universe is in control.  That he has a plan for each and every one of us..that he loves the people of New Orleans very deeply.

Through Katrina, we developed a love and understanding of our Brothers / Sisters in New Orleans.  Many of us have become filled with compassion like no other time.

What can we do?
We can pray that God will intervene, and weaken the storm .......
We can pray that the levies will hold, and that the water will stay out....
We can pray that the wind damage will be slim...
We can pray that the people will feel the calling of the almighty God, and turn to him for their hope and salvation....
We can make donations to EXCELLENT relief organizations such as Samaritan's Purse, or Operation Noah.
We can pray that Gustav...will be a storm that heals our wounds because of our preparation and compassion...

Many of us will go again in March (1 - 7).  Some of us will be called to go earlier.

Are you ready?

Our hearts are breaking....

God is in control
