Ex 34:29-35; Ps 99; Mt 13:44-46
PRECIOUS GIFT OF THE KINGDOM
Jesus said to the crowds, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and
buys that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for the fine pearls. When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sell all that he has and buys it.”
“HE SELLS EVERYTHING HE OWNS AND BUYS IT”
Only Matthew has these twin brief parables, but they are striking ones. For all their brevity they have the power of an Impressionist’s sketch. There are two major points being made. First the ‘super-value’ of the treasure and the pearl. Then the surrender of all one has for this once-in-a-lifetime bargain. But in common with these two messages is the rapidity and joy of the decision made to buy. Every aspect of the parables deserves
pondering. They are both condensations of heavenly wisdom. Nothing can be compared with the treasure or pearl of the kingdom. And no half-measures are enough to win it. ‘I count everything else as loss’, St. Paul will write. And this message of ‘do it now and with joy’, is counsel for us not only in major decisions, but for daily action in little things.

Sower’s Seeds: “Because of its weakness our will aspires to a degree of autonomy or independence with respect to the will of God. God’s will cannot sanctify us unless it asks for some sacrifice. Faced with this choice we often recoil. – Blessed James Alberione, SSP, S.Th.D., Founder of the Pauline Family

Mt 13:44-46

PARABLE OF THE NET Jesus said to his disciples, “The kingdom heaven is like a net
thrown into a sea, which collects fish of every kind. When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. “Do you understand all these things?” They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like the head of a household who brings from his storeroom both the new and the old.” When Jesus finished these parables, he went away from there.
“BRINGS OUT THINGS BOTH NEW AND OLD”
The parable
today of the dragnet is also proper to Matthew’s Gospel. It has the same message as that of the darnel sown among the wheat. The world, and therefore also the church, is not an Elite of perfect souls, but a mixed bag. We must be patient and tolerant within reason with evil elements in society, and trust that final judgement will be made by God. – But what of ‘the scribe who became a disciple of the kingdom’ and brings forth new things and old? Matthew is not urging innovation in the moral law of the Bible, but fresh ways (like new parables) in presenting Christian teaching. It is an invitation to all who are responsible for passing on Christian truth. Clearly there were such Christian scribes in Matthew’s own community. And Matthew has always been regarded as the prince of them. These words, therefore, about the Christian scribe are as it were his signature to his gospel. Sower’s Seeds: “The senses often revolt [against the will]. This is the result of original sin. The will rebelled against God; now the senses rebel against the will. Recalcitrant itself, docility does not come easy to the will. What we need are determination, skill and God’s grace. But even before these we need enlightenment, conviction and faith.” -Blessed James Alberione, Founder of the Pauline Family

Mt 13: 47-53
Lambat.
