Subject: Your Nomination for an Award as Wanjiku’s Best Representative - Education
17/11/2015
Hon Emmanuel Wangwe
The National Assembly,
P. O. Box 41842 - 00100
NAIROBI, KENYA
Dear Hon. Wangwe,
RE: Your Nomination for an Award as Wanjiku’s Best Representative - Education
Mzalendo Trust is a non-partisan Parliamentary Monitoring Organisation which keeps an eye on Parliament and makes information on Parliamentarians and their activities easily accessible
to the public.
Today, Mzalendo has launched an initiative to appreciate Members of Parliament who have excelled in their work through Bills, motions and statements on issues that are of great public
interest. The initiative - People’s Shujaaz Awards - complements the National Honours the Presidency bestows on Kenyans who have given exemplary service to the country every year.
Mzalendo undertook research by going through all trackers of Bills, motions and statements plus the Hansard to identify the key legislators spearheading issues of great public interest
in Parliament. Issues identified this year include: Financial oversight, Institutional oversight, mining, access to justice, devolution, education, health, special interests, security, progressive contributions, business and land. The issues list also represents
the 12 categories covered in this year’s awards.
A draft list of nominees was prepared and presented to some civil society groups who work in the governance sector to counter check with them whether these are the same legislators
they have encountered championing these issues. Through this elaborate process, three nominees were selected in each of the 12 categories and will be subjected to online voting by the public. The vote by the public is critical to ensure public participation,
in line with the Constitution is enshrined in the process.
This letter serves to notify you that you have been nominated in the category ‘Wanjiku’s Best Representative- Education’. You could consider enlisting support from your online community
to vote for you. Voting opens today, 17th of November 2015 and closes on 9th December 2015.
All the very best. Feel free to ask any further questions.
Yours sincerely,
Jessica Musila
