I am not a business person, but I fail to understand Kenya Airways logic in computing costs. Sample the following:

  • In May 2015, travelling from Nairobi to Incheon, Korea, KQ quoted an Economy return ticket of US$ 2348. Ethiopian gave US$ 1056 for the same itinerary. The team I was travelling with opted for Ethiopian. We found ET full, and I doubt if KQ was even half-full
  • October 2015, travelling from Nairobi to Dakar,Senegal, KQ quoted US$ 1750 for an Economy return ticket. Ethiopian quoted US$ 1100 for the same itinerary and with one leg being Business Class. The delegation I was in definately opted for Ethiopian
  • November 2015, travelling from Nairobi to Dakar, Senegal, KQ is still asking for US$ 2118 for an Economy return ticket whereas Ethiopian is asking for US$ 1078
All the Ethiopian flights first depart from Nairobi to Addis before heading to the final destination, and even return is via Addis. This is a much longer route, but VERY VERY affordable, at almost half the price that KQ is asking

Is there something wrong with KQ's pricing?

Could this be part of why KQ is almost going under?

This amazing, Boaz! You should send this message to KQ Executive Director and let us know how he responds. And if he does not, send the message to Watchman!

We hear there are those who want the Airline to collapse; one would like to believe the management does not fall within that group.

I wonder how we can help our National Carrier to turn around and serve us (and the wider clientele) in a just manner. I see the hustles that countries with no known national carriers go though and it's painful. I wish we dont fall into the categories of Uganda, Senegal and Zambia that are struggling to regain what they initiatially had but lost in the hands of unscrupulous fellows

Boaz - I think the other thing you are almost certainly assured of when travelling KQ for some of us die-hard supporters of our national carrier is that there will be a delay for no less than one hour as has been the case with my last three attempts. My latest experience being Friday 20th. I Stayed at very hot  Mwalimu Nyerere airport Dar es Laam waiting for my delayed KQ flight from 1800 hours to 2230 hours. No apology, no advise. Just the screen indicating delay!

Boaz,

I share in your concerns.

Did you get any response to the message you sent?

We could consider collectively writing formally to the MD either through this Forum or all the Forums you have copied your message to?

My experience is that at least in terms of services KQ are better on long-haul flights than on the regional ones. In particular, I have found them truly infuriating on the Entebbe and Dar es salaam routes. What is more annoying is the total lack of courtesy, with no attempt to explain or apologize...which may well be because it happens so regularly any explanation of apology would not make sense!

Michael

I am still waiting. The last response was the Autoresponse that I shared with all

Have they stopped caring?

I missed this interesting article, thanks for sharing

How can KQ be pushed to act responsibly?
