Climate Consultant uses annual 8760 hour EPW format climate data that is made available at no cost by the Department of Energy for thousands of weather stations around the world. Climate Consultant translates this raw climate data into dozens of meaningful graphic displays.

The purpose is not simply to plot climate data, but rather to organize and represent this information in easy-to-understand ways that show the subtle attributes of climate, and its impact on built form. The goal is to help users create more energy efficient, more sustainable buildings, each of which is uniquely suited to its particular spot on this planet.

The Psychrometric Chart is one of the more advanced features available in Climate Consultant. Each dot on the chart represents the temperature and humidity of each of the 8760 hours per year. Different Design Strategies are represented by specific zones on this chart. The percentage of hours that fall into each of the 16 different Design Strategy Zones gives a relative idea of the most effective passive heating or passive cooling strategies. Climate Consultant analyzes the distribution of this psychrometric data in each Design Strategy zone in order to create a unique list of Design Guidelines for a particular location.

There used to be a fantastic tool known as Climate Consultant from the US DoE which provided bunch of instant visualisations of stats related to the climate for your region and gave a bunch of graphical diagrams of useful passive design strategies relevant to your region (with accompanying psychrometric graphs etc).

Its original page was -design-tools.aud.ucla.edu/climate-consultant/request-climate-consultant.php and it was Windows only but it seems to no longer exist. Before I reach out to -us I was wondering if anybody knows of an alternative or knows where to get it?

I saw consulting as a way to continually learn, work on a variety of projects across industries, and perhaps most importantly, make a difference. The private sector moves quickly and can have a tremendous impact on the climate (positive and negative). I knew I wanted to pursue consulting, but one big question plagued me:

I continue to get this question from career seekers in coaching sessions, and honestly I never really had this answered for me prior to diving into my first consulting job. This article is going to show you my calendar and walk through what I generally do in a given week.

As a Global Technical Director, I have responsibility for setting the global strategy and developing approaches for delivering net zero strategies with our clients. This time is spent thinking about, developing, and executing a go-to-market strategy, team skills, capability building, hiring and recruiting, and developing internal tools and resources to help our teams deliver exceptional work.

This requires deep thinking, which is only possible with larger blocks of time. This week is actually somewhat atypical - usually, I have at least one 2-hour (minimum) block of focus time for strategy, if not more. It takes time to get into the flow, and I do my best to protect my schedule to allow it.

Many of my one-on-one meetings are focused on strategy. I take a very relationship-driven approach to strategy, which is why I have one-on-ones as a topic category. I ask my colleagues what is going well, what their pain points are, and how I can help. We talk about what projects to highlight in an upcoming proposal, how to approach a recent win, and what tools will help the team deliver what the client needs. The purpose of these meetings is to build relationships across the organization, which will enable me to drive consensus and ultimately execute a cohesive global strategy.

I hope this peek into my calendar gives you an idea of what one climate consultant does every day. This is going to differ so much based on so many factors, so I encourage you to check out #opendoorclimate and find other climate professionals to talk to. And remember, stay curious!
