Located in Evanston, Illinois, NOTIS began at Northwestern University from a commitment in the 1960s to develop an integrated online library system to serve the Northwestern University Library. Ameritech is the Chicago-based parent of the Bell companies serving Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, as well as several other information-related services. Its 1990 revenues were $10.7 billion.
